• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Buyers Beware!

I looked at the eBay ad for the radio, noting the model number and serial number, as shown in the photos:

MODEL NUMBER: EVXG-PBU1B
SERIAL NUMBER: A40130000811

I logged into the Harris TechLink, and checked the stolen radio database. No listings for a hot radio under the model number or serial number.

Curious, I checked the product catalog on the model to see the actual price:

EVXG-PBU1B...PORTABLE,XG-75,378-470MHZ,SCAN,BLK-GRY...$1970.00

It is interesting to note the Antenna Bandsplit of the stubby in the photos: 406-430 MHz (no color stripe. 378-400 MHz antennas have a white stripe.)

This seller is listed as being in: South Pittsburg, Tennessee. This is just west of Chattanooga.

The radio is programmed for a UHF low P-25 trunked system. There are only two that I am aware of in the region:

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)
Tennessee Valley Authority Trunking System, Various, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

Arnold Air Force Base
United States Department of Defense (14C) Trunking System, Nationwide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

To me, this radio is most likely very hot....

Thanks for the due diligence in any case. It may well be that both listing are for "HOT" equipment!

By her admission it is stolen. It is not his property and it's possible work related or not if he was fire or a leo he would have got it back. Therfore I believe he was public works which in most places they do not allow take home radios however while few do most do not in public works and many just sneak them home to use as a scanner. I would imagine the radio is inhibited but if he never reported it lost or stolen this proves my point he took it from his municipal work place without authorization thus why he never said a word and she has it. He figured I'll use another on the rack and oh well. She figures he won't say a word because he took it without authorization. Therfore stolen and both are going to be in some un easy water more likely him and either getting reprimanded or fired. Have you maybe talked to a investigator with the information you have told everyone here from the city listed? While some areas do not care or bother allot of entities out west do bother to check on things.

LosRio, you could be right. I have not talked to anyone yet because I have been trying to get a hold of the serial number to find out who the radio belongs to first.

Since she don't know anyone could pm her saying I was just needing a serial number as it is software specific for harris and until I know I cannot purchase the unit without knowing if I can get the proper software from a dealer which requires a sn. If he truly knows nothing you could try that route. But since you have been hitting her up it may take soneone else to ask.

I actually just sent her a message along those lines to see if she will be willing to share with someone else.

Here is the serial number that was sent to me. Maybe someone can run it and see what municipality this radio on eBay belongs to. It definitely sounds like it's not hers.

HARRIS CUSTOMER SERVICE 321-727-9100

Invest a dime. Although, most of us have flat-rate phone service these days.
