Can anyone tell me the best place to go in the D/FW metroplex area to buy a scanner? I found out the old Bearcat handheld scanner I've had for nearly 20 years will not work in this area and that I need a scanner with trunking capabilities. Thanks!

Not many places around here that I know of that you can still walk in and purchase a scanner other than Radio Shack (Uniden/GRE) and Fry's (Uniden). Bonnie and Clyde's on Harry Hines carries Unidens as well, but you will pay a lot more there.
There are however several reputable dealers online.

regardless of location, the best choice on average has got to be online shops (for price). unless, of course, you choose a radioshack model in which case going into your local radioshack store might yield results (but many have reported short supply in local stores -- call first to check stock!).

if you need digital, the pro-96 seems to be a great choice. for non-digital the pro-97 is a real winner with a great price-point (but some people love the uniden 246t -- which lacks milair but has a lot of excellent features). i'm in the houston area and have a pro-97 which i picked up about a month ago, and i'm glad i did (prior to that i've had a pro-94 for several years). i don't have any digital systems down here yet, at least that i'm aware of that i would care to monitor, so the pro-97 is working out great. plus i have some frequent milair traffic (mostly helicopters) around me so that's a plus.

in any case, good luck and have fun :p
