went to the local electronics recycling store. a pound of used batteries were $1.00. are they worth it?

picked out all the Energizers. weighed 3.4 pounds. took them home and checked with a multimeter.

voltage ranges from n.00 to n.99

voltage, qty
15, 16
14, 11
13, 17
12, 3
11, 7
=<10, 7
dead, 3

total of 64 batteries. going to toss 10 of them. 54 batteries for $3.40 is 6.3c per battery. or if you only count the decent ones 1.3V and above, 7.7c per battery.

expiration dates were 2027-2033. no problem! they'll get used before then.

yes, they are worth it.

I think that they do is, the box isn't only batteries people threw away, they must take batteries out of items they get (remote controls, etc) and toss them in the box. so there would be a much higher ratio of good vs bad batteries.

my neighbor sent over about 100 rechargeable ones (AA and AAA)
my charger could save about 80 of them.
but free is the way to go.
his charger is pickier i guess.
i use the maha c-9000.
the solar light battery pile now has quite a bit of extra cells.
some were good enough for the scanner pile.

now that I have sorted them out, I'm pretty sure that's what they did. almost all in groups of 2 or 3 with the same expiration dates and voltage +/- 0.002V

I had a freind who worked at a photo lab and he sent me a huge box of AA batteries pulled from disposable cameras. I got a lot of years worth of use from those. I would avoid those Duracell batteries these days. Those leak like crazy when depleted.
