Does anybody know what frequencies the CA Department of Food & Ag border pest exclusion stations use? According to my old Kelty guide (circa 2000), they used CHP Blue- 42.34. Does this still hold true? Or are they using a different frequency? I know that CA DFA has a lowband freq (37.26) and a couple of VHF High channels, but none of their existing licenses match with the border station locations. I am planning a trip to Oregon next summer, and would like to be able to monitor them as I travel.

Good question. If you find out let us know.

The only info I could add is when returning from Vegas on I-15, I noted at the inspection facility a pickup which sported what looked like a VHF antenna. Never thought about it much until this thread.

My wife and I spent a weekend at Coos Bay in August, and since she was driving southbound when we went thru the Inspection Station on 101 at Smith River I took the quick minute to look for antennas, and saw none anywhere on or near the building, whose roof make it pretty easy to see from the approach and exit. There's a pole attached to the southeast corner of the building with a security camera and what I thought on our northbound trip might have been an antenna... but it wasn't. Just the camera.

There was a state pickup truck parked inside, but I couldn't see any antennas on it. I agree with your "non-findings" of any radio frequencies licensed to that location, SloScanMan_01. Closest thing is Pelican Bay SP.

The State has done a very thorough job of updating all the CHP radio sites in Del Norte and Humboldt counties in preparation for the CHPERS changeover, including two scalehouses within about 5 miles from where I live and which I've seen open perhaps three times in the 21 years I've lived here, but they have no licenses in the area of the border station. Perhaps they rely on mobile radios if they need to call somebody. I don't remember ever seeing more than one worker on duty at that station, which we pass thru a couple times a year.

Your master site
After thinking about it, I wonder of they use the CMARS systems.
Last I saw there were an insane amount of tones programmed in the CMARS repeaters for various different agencies but this agency wasn't one of them.I think all I've ever heard on CMARS is CDC and DPR. Maybe CYA and CCC.

CDC transports going to and from UC Davis Med Center on CMARS Mt Vaca (Green) used 156.7 PL. Not sure how I remember that after all these years. :D

Didn't someone post a PDF a while back with all the CMARS frequencies, mountain tops and tones?

EDIT: Yes they did.

Here locally (the eastern Sierra) the "bug stations" use CHP Gold, which is the frequency pair used by the three area offices dispatched by the CHP Bishop Comm Center. They use the phone to report many incidents, but are on the air for others. Sometimes they will respond to BOLOs announced over the air so they must listen as well as call somethings in. The local inspection stations are Topaz, on U.S. 395 and at Benton on U.S. 6.

And numerous times when passing through that same station, I've seen a handheld radio sitting inside the kiosks.

I've wanted to attempt some social-engineering, but each time I've been there they just wave me on through.
