Well after having my 780 up and running 24/7 for the past 8 years (I'm guessing) it died. I ordered the BCT15 from scannerworld and downloaded ARC15PRO to my laptop. Since the laptop only has USB's and no comport, I guess I should have ordered the USB-1 cable when i ordered the 15??? Is there any other way to be able to program the 15 with a PC with USB only??? BTW...the 15 has not arrived yet.....

Thanks...that should work fine. Question....why wouldn't Uniden make their scanners USB capable??? The speed of a USB 2.0 is so much faster then a com port. It sure would make programming a breeze for 99% of us instead of having to pick-up an adapter.

I imagine the reason they use the serial interface is simply a matter of architecture since the serial one is readily available to both Uniden and GRE they continue to use it. going to USB means more R & D and cost to you in the end. I do imagine in the future they will switch over.

thats a real good question...??? I dont understand why Uniden didn't include it with out $500.00 units as any modern PC's has gone to USB 2.0.

as a matter of fact I just built me a custom $3500.00 unit and theres not a signal comport pin connection on it anywhere, Just 8 high speed usb 2.0 ports.

What's the DEAL UPMAN, seem like a cheap trick to milk us anther 30 bucks.... SO I spent $1000.00 on uniden and had to cough up 60 more bucks for PC cables,, that sucks..

The com-port and USB's are input/output devices. Not too sure R&D would be needed. The data itself and how it is seen by the computer and the scanner itself is where the R&D would come into play.

Sounds like you wasted your money.

Wow, you sure do like whining - no different that your comments in other threads.

The microprocessors used in scanners typically have built in serial ports, so that's what we get. Uniden isn't going to raise the cost (yet) by adding parts that provide limited extra functionality.

I don't buy a computer that doesn't have a serial port or a floppy drive...
