Hello,

Does anyone hear anything from the posted freq? I am located just west of Kingston and hear nothing.
Have they moved to SEARS ??

Cheers

Perhaps I should reframe the question. Is it active and not encrypted ? I am interested in Kingston and Trenton CAF bases. I have not heard a thing. I do see the signal meter moving but nothing else. Using 436HP.

If they follow the other SEARS sites, they'd probably be on 11210 and possibly encrypted.

Might want to check this thread as well as they might be on UHF: New CDN Military

I can confirm that CFB Trenton MP's use their “old” VHF simplex frequency - 149.350. They were on SEARS for a very brief period some months ago. I assume they had issues as they came back to this channel. What comm's I did hear at that time were definitely not encrypted.

The Base Fire Service does regularly use SEARS.

I can’t speak about Kingston MPs. I’m too far out for them.

Hello RCS and Kyler,

What would be the reason for the MP to be well encrypted now ? Unless the SEARS system is or will incorporate into the new Prov System ? It seems still to be very regional usage. Appreciate your expertise !
Cheers

SEARS and the new provincial system are two totally separate systems. LMRN is for Ontario government agencies and SEARS is for the Canadian Forces.

Like almost every other police service in Ontario, the Military Police are usually encrypted. CFB Borden's MPs went encrypted about 6 months ago.

Petawawa I think went encrypted within 6months of the system going online here. MPs, EMS and Security are encrypted, everything else like fire, ops, range control etc.. are in the clear but I suspect they can encrypt if needed.

Trenton MP's have a wider area to cover then most. They have to cover Mountainview, Carrying Place and Point Petre, as well and SEARS reception in those areas were not stable.

Interesting … appreciate your insight. I’m curious as to what’s in Point Petre ?
Little bit of info from the CFB Picton page off Wikipedia;

The Point Petre and South Bay Training Areas were located in the southeast corner of the county near Cherry Valley. Point Petre had been in use as an artillery range since 1938 and the area continued in that role with the formation of the RCSA. Sections of the site were also used for test firing of the Velvet Glove air-to-air missile. The South Bay Training Area was used for mortar, recoilless rifle and anti-tank rocket training. In 2015, Point Petre is a Provincial Wildlife Area. A transmitter site for the Military Aeronautical Communications System based at CFB Trenton is also located there.
