Yes the 96 can do the newer narrowband steps.

No it will not Trunk 700, but can recieve them if you open them with the Win96 software from starrsoft.

As to UHF,.. I believe it can do all the UHF Trunking.

As far as I understand it, the 96 can do VHF TRS's, and all the current systems in use except EDACS Provoice, OpenSky, TETRA, and will not trunktrack any LTR.

ASTRO VSELP is an older digital format created by Motorola, it is being phased out for the newer formats such as the ASTRO IMBE 3600 kbps APCO P-25 Phase I, and the ASTRO-25 IMBE 9600 kbps (True APCO P-25) systems.

Kenwood radios are commercial grade proffessional radios, and would not be scanners,.. they are the real deal. Using one as a scanner is a risky business. If your trying to use one to monitor a Trunked System, unless your athorized to be on that system is not a good idea for many reasons, not to mention that the system ops can and will "kill" an unathorized radio.

Yes scanners can track P-25 Phase 2, which is true P-25 IMBE Common Air Interface.

The 96, as well as the BC296D, and BC796D, and the upcomming PRO-2096 all can follow this format. In Trunking systems this would be 9600 kbps systems.

Kenwoods are used by many PS folks. If they are P-25 CAI, yes the digital scanners can hear them as long as they are not using encryption.

PS uses Motorolas, Kenwoods, M/A-Com's, EFJ's, Tait's, and a few other brand radios. It all depends on thier communications needs as to what they use.

Yes, it can do the steps, but NOT THE MODE. The PRO-96 has no SNFM mode, do you will hear interference from adjacnet frequencies (7.5 kHz above and below) and those stations using SNFM will sound weak audio-wise compared to NFM stations.

The PRO-96 can be modified to cover the 700 MHz band (checking a box in software), but the bandplan in the PRO-96 MAY not match the FCC's 700 MHz bandplan, so it MAY be useless. Recent posts have indicated that the FCC may have changed their bandplan to the standard .0000, .0125, .0250, .0375 etc scheme. The FCC's bandplan was (maybe still is) a .00625, .01875, .03125, .04375 scheme, which would make the PRO-96 expansion useless, as it would cover exactly between those channels.
