Can you listen to lightning?

wow thunderstorm here..

my Weather alert thing never goes off on my scanner.. all the scanner does is make popping sounds, not very interesting..

When linstening to AM broadcast radio and there is a storm, I can hear the lightning over the radio from over 25 miles away.

Maybe what I am hearing is further away. I normally hear it when a storm is in town, though, so I figured 25 miles, but I guess it could be further. Hard to tell being I can't see the lightning I am hearing.

BTW, I am talking about my AM/FM radio in my car
