Hey, y'all...

I was wondering if anyone had any information for Canadian County that they haven't yet submitted... here's some of my notes so far... feel free to correct any errors...

Yukon PD dispatches for Piedmont PD
Mustang PD dispatches for Union City PD
El Reno PD dispatches for Calumet PD

According to the county page here on RR, Canadian SO "talks" to Concho PD on 155.49. Does Concho PD even exist? Is it a new department?

The following FD's provide fire protection services in Canadian Co:

Calumet FD, El Reno FD, Mustang FD, Okarche FD, Piedmont FD, Union City FD, Yukon FD, Cedar Lake VFD, Richland FD

Again, I don't know who dispatches who on what frequencies, etc, except for Mustang, Yukon, El Reno, and Union City.

Anyone know why Mustang FD is up on 800 MHz?

Finally, in the EMS services... with Mercy EMS getting out of the business of emergency transporting, that leaves Parkview EMS and EMSA (which covers portions of OKC that are in Canadian Co), unless I'm forgetting a company or two. Anyone know who's providing EMS services where in Canadian Co?

Many thanks in advance,

Mustang is on 800 one of the first to go 800 in the state they got the radios from a military unit that donated the radio's from what I have heard the system seems to work quite well for them.

mustang runs conventional 800 the only fd in the four surrounding counties. There system isnt even trunking capable kinda waste of money if you ask me. Stick with vhf for mutal aid capabilities or possible uhf to ask OCFD for assistance, since OCFD will keep UHF radios in rigs for that reason even after EDACS change over..

Yeah it would be a waste except the cost of the system was right from what I have heard the military gave it to them that is what the ex chief of Nichols Hills told me.

I dunno... I think it would take ALOT of performance and ALOT of cost benefit to convince me to move my FD comms up to 800 conventional, particularly in a large and rural area where the rest of the world is on hi-band and UHF...

Looks like Mustang PD's units are in the 3** range, and their base is known as "Headquarters".

Canadian SO seems to use "County-**" format for their units.

I REALLY need to get a better antenna set up...

2112 -----try googling super discone. its a wide band antenna it goes from around 50mhz to around 1300mhz. Its also resonant for transmitting. if you have multiple scanners and would like to just put up one antenna. Take alook at stridsberg engineering multicouplers. They work excellent. I have been active in radios for about 5 years and real active (work required it ) in scanners for a little over a year. Guys that i work with have been doing it since crystalized scanners so they have been doin it for awhile.............

I'm really interested in putting up a tower, particularly because I have a metal roof on my house... BUT... I'm afraid of attracting lightning.

Thanks for the info. I tried a Stridsberg MC a couple years ago, but it didn't work.. so I returned it. I'm going to have to get another one, though, because I'm NOT going to put up an antenna for each scanner.

How does the Diamond Super Discone compare to the $89.95 discone that ScannerMaster has? How do either of these compare to an Austin Spectra? The Spectra might be a good choice because it's much smaller and less obtrusive.

Of course, this is getting a little off-topic... guess I can interject a bit of on-topic stuff by wondering why El Reno PD is on UHF when everyone else in on hi-band... kinda like Mustang FD... and do they dispatch Calumet PD on the same UHF channel or another...

Thanks again,

Austin spectra is wonderful for 800 trunking I live in eastern canadian county and with no tower can pick up the shawnee trunk system, i know its the shawnee system and not the DPS interlink. Back to the diffrent systems in use by various agencies in Canadian county. That all comes down to good motorola salesmen. And not enough vhf repeater pairs that were free. Thats why uhf is scattered all over the county

I also use a Spectra, and love it! But, excuse my nitpicking, there is no such thing as a VHF repeater pair (I am talking about the 150-170 MHz range here). VHF was established long before repeaters became common, so the band wasn't allocated with repeaters in mind. That's why the split between the input and output freqs varies so much on VHF. But you are correct that the supply of VHF freqs has gotten tight, hence the shift to UHF. The funny thing, in most areas of the country agencies went to 800 MHZ due to the lack of UHF pairs, while in Oklahoma we are just now shifting to UHF!

exactly why i said there wasnt enought vhf repeater pairs. If you go to any dealer in OKC and say I want a vhf repeater for public safety band. After the the salesmen stops laughing. The next question out of their mouths will be on what pair ( notice they dont ask what single freq you want )are you trying to use. Vhf is crowded from 144 to 170. With the only hope of some OKC office manager not seeing the need to renew vhf licenses for ocpd.... Nit picky or not when you are with a public safety agency within the last 20 years, you dont go to the FCC and ask for VHF single freq, you ask for pairs wether they are used for a repeater or not there is always that option [/quote]

EMS services in Candian County

As far as EMS services, EMSA posts a truck in Yukon and one in Mustang inside the fire department. The unit call numbers are always 300-something. These dedicated trucks, like the one in Bethany, do not move around to different posts each hour. These three ambulances are called out over pager, then the paramedics get in the truck and tell dispatch they are ready for the call. They will go into OKC and do the whole post thing only when EMSA gets down to only having one or two ambulances available for calls in the city.

ParkView EMS out of El Reno handles El Reno and Union City, etc. EMSA handles Piedmont using the Yukon truck usually.

Uuuh, actually Canadian County dispatches for Calumet PD, but usually Calumet is off duty so a deputy responds anyway. Where are you from? I'm around Calumet. Most of the fire departments are on mutual aid channel because they work together so often. Canadian County Sheriff can dispatch for about anyone though, including ParkView ambulances who cover western Canadian county and go into Hinton and Geary too. The county has several different sets of cars, most of them are Canadian ** as it said up above, but there are also K* units for canine cars, V* (Victor) units, and B* (Baker) units.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to answere the Concho question, Concho is a Cheyenne and Arapaho indian town, which was served by the C&A police until the government had to intervene because the tribe was having a hard time keeping things straight. Now the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs takes care of all of the indian law enforcement.
