Just got a BCD536HP. Installed last version of Sentinel which I got from Radioreference because it was not on the SD card and activated the net. 2.0 support thing like it says elsewhere. Running on Windows 11. Sentinel can't see the database even if it's there. Always get the messages "Reconstructing full database failed." "Mismatched file format version." "Database could not be read" It's looking for the file hpdb.cfg which is where it should be. Got the last installer so it should work. Can I use the scanner without Sentinel using other software like Proscan or Arc536? Any solution to my problem anyone here? Thanks for any help.

What I've run into, and it's odd. I need to use my 2.4 wifi, not the 5. I do that and no issues. I get error messages on 5 Gig. Give it a try if you can select that from your router.

Yes, as I mentioned on countless threads here I prefer Proscan over Sentinel for favorites list programming for various reasons (not going to get into them all here but click here if you want to know the various reasons why). You get a fully-functional 30 day trial so you can get familiar with it, then $50 USD gets you two product activations plus periodic app updates. Only prerequisite is you'll need a Radioreference premium subscription to be able to import items directly from the RRDB to your scanner.
One more caveat: Sentinel IS needed for firmware updates. Though there haven't been any of substance lately for the x36HPs so no huge loss!

Videotron in Canada. It used to work last year but I have switched to Windows 11 since then. It works with Proscan but can't get Sentinel to work. Really stuck here.

I can't even get the opening window to show in Sentinel. given up on it for now. Proscan however is a different story, wish I just would have switched earlier. I know at some point I'll have to eventually get Sentinel working for updates I guess but, for now on my 536 and a couple others I help people with proscan is gonna be my go to.

While this is great, I have no such file in my computer. Thanks however, at least it's something.

Search using windows explorer for “user.config”.
Man I have no idea what's going on with this computer. Nothing you guys are describing is locatable on this machine Or at least that I can find. I appreciate the help. I'll mess with it more later, this is nuts. Again, thanks.

What version of Windows are you using?
What type of PC are you using?
Did you instal as ADMINISTRATOR?
I'll get the exact stuff when I get home. Yes it was installed as administrator, worked for a year and one day stopped. I know it's windows 10 but I don't know pro or home. I forget

Proscan, the Unication PPS, three instances of RT systems and Motorola CPS 16 and 2.0 all open fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled sentinel 3 times.

Just an advice about the .Net Framework versions: They are not downward compatible, and you can have multiple versions of .Net Framework installed. Sentinel needs .Net Framework 2.0/3.0/3.5 installed. .Net Framework 7.0+ will not run .Net Framework 2.0 software like Sentinel.

I followed a video someone had posted about "windows features" and have done that to get 3.5 I think. I'll look later.
