Well, some kind of data channel is on some of the NJSP North channels, makes it almost impossible to monitor. I know at least one other poster has heard it, anyone got any clue what it is? For sure, it can be heard in NJ along the Turnpike north of the Meadowlands, so it must also intefere with NJSP radios at times.

This is driving me nuts, and NO, it is not a programming problem. Some kind of data is being transmitted on those same freqs.

Are you sure you are not hearing Astro communications on some channels? Does your scanner show talkgroup ID when receiving?

NO, it is NOT Astro, as I heard it on a BC396 while in NJ. And I don't think it is related to conditions, as I get it all the time on all my radios.

I am in Western Morris County and had the system clear.

If it's not local intereference, then it's your setup.

Thanks

Can you note and share which frequency(ies) it is happening on? It may also be helpful in troubleshooting to know what TGIDs are showing when it receives this noise on a voice channel.

I take it the noise doesn't sound like anything on W2SJW's Radio Sounds page or any similar digital sounds pages.

I it is 866.5625 and I receive it on every radio in the house. It crops up on the trunk when there is an active TG on that freq. It is NOT P25, it sounds more like MDT data. It is lound and clear here (NY) and as I stated, I also picked it up on the Turnpike between The Meadowlands and the GW.

They must have implemented something near the City. It may not show up in the DB yet. I tuned to that freq, and listened to the file that was pointed out above, they sound about identical. That stinks, no more NJSP from here until they reband.

Isn't 866.5625 MHz one of the frequencies that aren't going to be/don't have to be rebanded?

If I remember correctly, anything above 860 needs to be re-banded. Most NEXTEL ops take place from about 862-866 (as seen when engaging the 'trace' mode on my i580).

Except that if it is a NY TRS channel (any non-Nextel channel for that matter), it will likely be rebanded to the same frequency as the NJSP channel, to 851.5625. If it is truly causing harmful interference to NJSP then they should be in the process of resolving it.

I did a point/radius search in the FCC database for 866.5625 within 50 miles of Newburgh, NY, and only turned up licenses for the State of NJ.

I'm still fighting with major lightning damage to the alarm system at my store in Kearny. I'll be back there bright-and-early Monday morning, so I'll definitely listen to that freq. and tell you what I hear...

Yep, that's either OpenSky, OR it's the new business-oriented radio system from /\/\ known as MotoTRBO.

I've been following stuff on that over at the BatLabs forums, and they guys over there say that it's a TDMA-based system with the AMBE vocoder (just like OpenSky).

However, the constant broadcast of that sound leads me to believe that it's OpenSky. I believe that MotoTRBO only 'emits' anything when you actually transmit...

If it is Open Sky, NYS must have started to implement the new system. But it is way too close to NJ, I definately heard that in eastern NJ

Yep, that's OpenSky. I'd really like to know where it's coming from as well...
