Cant pick up any repeater and only hear this sound

Turn off all your receive tones! If you set a wrong tone you will not hear anything. Some repeaters require receiving a tone(sent by the radio wanting access to the repeater) to open up. Others repeaters while needing to receive a tone, do not send the tone out when transmitting. With no receiving tone, you will hear anything on that frequency.

I had so many problems with random repeaters until I realised that not all use CTCSS on their outputs!

Most of these got tones, correct? Hamilton Amateur Radio Repeaters
