For the last couple of weeks iv'e been hearing the Capitol PD on 155.505. Not all the transmissions, only the dispatch portion. On the Montgomery City-County EDACS system, I can hear both sides of the conversation. To make things even more interesting, the dispatch portion of the transmission on 155.505 is also rebroadcast on 155.520!

Anyone have any inside knowledge about what's going on?

Thanks,

Warren

I live in Ohio but I'll see if I can help you out with what I know. It could be a couple things. 155.505 is not on a repater, if so you'd have to be close to the cars to be able to hear them transmit. The input traffic is encyrpt. so you can't hear it. For the being able to hear them on a diff. freq. it's possible that they are on a repeater and dispatch is transmiting to to repeater on 155.52?, that could be the input freq. VHF are all over, UHF, 800 all have rules they must follow. Hope this helps.

At the hairdresser's, past the liquor store.
Perhaps I need to talk with my colleagues at Capitol Police and see what's up.

Capitol Police was transfered from the Dept of Finance to the Dept of Public Safety's new Protective Services (PS) Division about three or four years ago. If I had to guess, I would think that they are simulselecting their 800 with 155.505 (DPS-3) as a means for mutual aid with other DPS division units. Keep an ear out for PS units contacting the Montgomery Post on 155.505 direct. Seeing if there is any two way traffic on DPS-3 will be interesting. Meanwhile, I'll see what I can find out.

In Sept of 2004, I had the pleasure to work with Capitol Police dispatch for about a week as an observer to see how DPS could better serve them as far as communications and communications training were concerned. One of the suggestions I made then was to make DPS VHF available for PS units. At that time Capitol Police was using Southern Linc. only. The old UHF system was still in place but hardly ever used.

Look for Capitol Police to be a part of any future DPS radio plans.

After I sent the email, I remembered seeing a Capital PD car coming back from the company Christmas party last December. It had both VHF and 800Mhz antennas on it. I wonder if they can communicate on both VHF and 800, of if one is a patch to the other??

I did finally hear both sides of the conversation on 155.505.

I think you're right - they probably needed the ability to communicate with both the City/County as well as the rest of DPS.
