Whoa...!!! The 09s are out??? Since when?

Chevy dealer told me the other day that it'd be another 6-8 weeks, and they were still retooling.

Its been sitting in my garage for 2 weeks now.

I'm guessing they said that just to sell off the '08s first.

Heres a bit of info, on another forum I belong to, a retired broadcast engineer was having problems with his remote not working. Took it to the dealer and had them reprogram the FOB multiple time but it kept happening. After thinking about it, he realized that his I-POD FM modulator was set to 108.xmHz, and the forth harmonic from 108.xmHz fell into the remotes frequency range. His FM modulators 4th harmonic was COVERING up his remote signal to his cars ears. It was an easy fix, he changed his TX freq from 108 to 80.x, now his FOB works all the time. I asked him about running tons of power on the freqs the FOBs work on to unlock and he said that each fob DOES have its very own digital signal/key that is encrypted so no, you cannot buy anything under a few grand that will open these doors, at least on the newer cars, it might work on some early 90s cars though, I dont know.... Dosent this fall under someone asking about listening to cell phones? This discussion is not about legal activity.

Ok,That did not answer my question. Is the 314-316 and 432-435Mhz which we know is UHF. Is the mode of operation AM, Narrow FM,(NFM)or Wide FM (WFM)? Can anyone advise?

Pulse modulation is a separate mode, it is not AM or FM and the signal that those RF remote controls put out is typically several MHz wide.
You might be able to hear it better with AM, but all you would hear is a buzzing sound.

He just said that its niether FM or AM, its pulse modulated, he said that you can hear it closely with AM modulation.

This is getting me thinking. Who know's about garage door opening frequencies?

a few years ago a couple companies came out with those "Smart Code" things, now its almost impossible. but many people still have the old ones that could be possiblely "hacked" into and opened by a transmitter in those ranges, but like aboe their these pulse modulated so you will have to find a device for thaat

Garage door remotes operate on the same freqs as the car remotes.
314-316MHz
432-435MHz
Pretty much any low low power remote operates in there somewhere. Have also seen some in the 318, 340, 360, and 390 range. I believe the most popular is in the 315 range though.

Edit: To go along with chrismoll post..... one of em is called codedodger. Rolling codes.....

Ok, I think I will put a big antenna on my roof that is connected to the openers' antennae and make a super high power tx'r to open it like 5 miles away just to have fun (because it is not practical).

Yo know, I remember something like that over here in PA...Dauphin County. Somewhere on the westshore, a garage door opener kept getting activated from something like a nuclear power plant. It was a few years ago, so I don't remember all of the facts, though. It was all over the news.

In the areas where the federal government has the new 380 MHz TRS's, a LOT of civilians have complained that their GDO's (Garage Door Openers) were no longer working - which was due to them being on the same frequencies as the TRS. Pretty much the governments reply was "So, what do you want me to do about it?".

Yea...that is the reason because my mother works at the navy base in mechanicsburg and that was a headline in the news so we all watched.

Ya know, i recall hearing something about that (interference from a govt. TRS to garage door openers) in some of the Ham radio litrature (QST magazine, and the ARnewsline on-air stuff). Seems folks were having a cow about the fact that they`re grage door openers weren`t working anymore and they figured out that this govt. TRS was the culprit. I remember the big stink folks made, and, as was already mentioned, the reaction or the government to it...like...your grage door remote dosen`t work...big deal. Funny thing is, if i`m right these units also used to operate on CB channel 23 at one time too, and from what i recall no one batted an eye about it then ether. N9NRA
