Being they have vhf and 700 capabilities anyone ever sniff around the 700 licenses for conventional use?

While I have not heard it personally, I'm told they have access to the 700 Mhz interoperability channels. Collin Co. Troops have 800 interop (NPSPAC) access and I've seen several Trooper vehicles running low profile 7/800 antennas in addition to the VHF whip.

Per a reliable radio technician in the area, DPS also equips their units with CB capabilities.

A DEA agent I befriended in Houston showed me his disguised UHF old school telescoping antenna on an Olds 88. I suppose DPS has something similar.

Back in the early 80's DPS Tollway troopers used to be part of a Dallas CB group. One Trooper's handle was "Double Bubble" They all ate at Cindy's every morning. Then came along a new Sergeant that made them take them all out and go back to being mean-ole-troopers ...

They used to be easy to spot. The K40 trunk trunk mount was like a neon sign.

Back in the Dark Ages (analog) 154.95 was the mobile transmit half of the intercity pair. The base transmit frequency was 155.370. Intercity took up two "channels" in car our radios. One was labeled Car to Car, 154.95 Simplex CSQ. The other was labeled either Mobile to Base, or just Intercity, 154.950 transmit/155.370 receive CSQ. Dispatch also has two intercity channels. One was 155.370 Simplex CSQ to be used to talk to other agencies base to base. The other was 155.370 transmit/154.950 receive CSQ for dispatch to be able to talk to mobile units from other agencies

Many Dispatch's had dtmf selcall for base to base calling to check on warrants etc or advising that someone(s) were headed into another County..but many left the monitor on and if they heard another base asking for wanted status on someone - they would /could chime in and say "hey we have warrents on him/her too"
This was before advanced TLETS- mdts- 800 mumbers and was used to advoid long distance calls.

fun fact:
If you draw a line from Amarillo to Corpus- most every Intercity Base to the East of that line was Motorola and to the West of that line was GE

Has anyone confirmed the use of Mobile 2? Have been trying to find the correct frequencies that are being used in my county, however, I can't seem to find the correct freqs. Good friend of mine is a Troop and has key'd up several times for me but no luck...

I have personally only ever heard traffic on 155.445.
Years ago TPWD made a youtube video about narrowbanding. It showed a close up of the screen of somebody using programming software with Mobile 1 and Mobile 2 listed. I don't know if that was real or not.
