Carteret County Encryption

I thought the aliens had landed but it appears that we finally have an encrypted channel in Carteret County. It's been a long time since I've heard an encrypted channel and I'm wondering if anyone else knows about this.
I would send a video but it appears that videos are no uploadable...I could convert but not with audio

Here in our small town, they are encrypted on the fire channel. For the longest time both dispatch and fire ground were but they closed the dispatch center here locally and now they dispatching the clear but the fire ground is still encrypted. Every once in a while someone will have a radio not encrypted but at that can only hear one side of the conversation.

I just thought about something.....could this possibly be DMR?

The question came from late night scanning with my BCD396T and I've never heard it on my SDS200 which has DMR.....so either my SDS200 is encoding it OR they this is new and they are testing and only doing it at night........

It sound like aqualung.....here is an MP3 (zip) so someone may be able to hear and know what it is....It's worth a shot!

IF it is DMR.....can I justify to wifey that I need another SDS200? I already did the Remote to my scanner with Proscan but I don't always listen and it's in another room

You said it was on a VIPER TG, VIPER does not use DMR, only P25 Phase I and (in limit locations for now) Phase II.

As far as I know its not encrypted. They do have some odd sound though that's caused by patch.

Edit: I listened to your file and it sounds like someone is using VHF and not getting to the repeater.

The volume was too low for me to hear and external noise (moving around the recording device) to high covering the low audio.

I was using headphones. The background is the normal odd sound that they have on the VIPER patch and broken audio where someone was trying to say something.

Yes that's how it usually sounds and I have not heard what I posted since that night. Must have just been a radio problem at that time.....just glad it wasn't encoding/scrambling that they were testing!
