You might have seen this portable advertised on Amazon and I've seen ads popping up for this radio, so these are some reviews and comments by my old friend Dan Robinson and at the Radio Jay Allen website. Bottom line seems to be that it has potential but there are some bugs - like muting when tuning - that need to be ironed out.

You will notice that newer units include a rotatable MW / LW loop. Dan has told me it's not worth it to get it. I would bet that the internal MW and external loop are interacting. Onward...

A friend bit on one of the RF919s, and except for the soft muting, it's a pretty decent radio. Good audio, MUCH better than a PL-660. If they got rid of the muting, I would put it near the top. I don't mind the looks at all, as long as it's the grey one.

I've moved.
There are 4 or 5 brands attached to this same radio on Amazon. Radioddity sells the Raddy. Ratings for different brands on Amazon range from 3.9 to 4.8 stars. Even the well respected Sangean has only 4.0 stars.

Yes, the biggest complaint is the "soft muting" when twisting the course frequency knob. But there are 4 other ways to select frequencies.

The other con for a couple of the brands is no user replaceable batteries. The Raddy and a couple of other brands DO have user replaceable batteries.

The high points for me, based on product descriptions and user reviews are these:

* Several antenna connection options along with antenna tuning control
* Remote control app via Apple or Android phones.
* Much wider frequency coverage than most (or any?) on the market.
* Better sound quality than most this size or smaller
* Can be used as a BT speaker from your phone
* Generous reception readouts on its two displays
* Decent sensitivity and selectivity for this price point.

I personally like the design and form factor of this unit. I don't own one yet, but will continue my research and wait for the right price and factory updated firmware.

I have just got the HanRonDa version of this radio and it comes with version 1.710 software and it has mute disabled, so i assume they listened to the comments and actually did something about it. I haven't had it long enough to pass judgement yet, except to say it's quite complex and will take a bit of time to get to know it! BUT it does sound good, better than my Choyong LC90 which I thought was good 😃
