Had a question on another forum about the State Highway Patrol monitoring CB Channel 9. Is that a relic of the past or do the Posts and cruisers still have CB radios? If so, does anyone monitor Channel 9?

Some do. The motor carrier patrols still have the CB whips, but the chargers are a mixed bag from what I have seen.

Depends on the district and which radio shop, and if you put pressure on them to install.

In most of the photos I've seen of the interior of the OSP Durango's, they do have a CB installed.

Anyone know if the OSP posts still have their CB radio base stations?

There is a road sign on I-70 near the Indiana/Ohio line that says OSP monitors CB CH9.

They don't. Ohio likes to do stuff such as, leave a non-applicable sign on the roadside for 10+ years.

I'm more that surprised nobody hasn't stolen it yet.

Why don’t someone start calling the highway patrol on CB 9 whenever they see a car on the side of the road needing assistance, or anything traffic related and see if they respond. I highly doubt you will get a come back. You could probably even just ask the highway patrol for a radio check.

I would do it myself but here in Northwest Florida CB channel 9 is full of Spanish speaking traffic like it’s a comedy channel. Rumor has it, it’s from very powerful radios in Puerto Rico but I can’t verify that.

Happy monitoring and good luck on the HP contact!

ODOT put a bunch of those up in the 1970s during the CB radio craze.
They just forgot to take it down.
