• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The problem on the road is the automobiles as they cause 80-90% of the wrecks when big trucks are involved
And 100% when a big truck is not involved. I saw enough with my time on the road, some years ago to know what "usually" happens.

Are truckers ever at fault? Sure they are but not as much as we're lead to believe by media. Plus, the ones were the car is at fault seems to rarely make the news.

100% agree with you and @slowmover. The NJ Turnpike is split into separate cars only and truck lanes for a significant portion of its run. Cars can use the truck lanes, but not vice versa. I have had fewer issues driving in the truck lanes than on the cars only side.

"How does it look behind you?" When and if someone talks back to me, I will make sure the driver gets a report. If I just jumped on the highway, they will be informed.

In the recent past, I've noticed fewer rigs sporting CB antennas. I have also noticed folks keying up, reporting a cop, but never mentioning what mile marker or which direction they are traveling.

Since I have a Passport Max 360, I can see alerts well in advance on a smart phone screen. When I report a stationary or moving cop, I note such on the Escort software. It is an amazing radar detector.

If nobody responds on the CB, I will generally say, "The following is a public service announcement........................" Hell, sometimes, I tell drivers to put up the "left-handed" cigarettes.

Since I travel with the SDS 100 & 436HP, I generally share this information, particularly if the interstate/road is shut down, etc. One time, outside of Huntsville, Texas, the epicenter of TDCJ-ID, I once reported someone exchanging gunfire on the shoulder of the road with law enforcement/Internal Affairs in pursuit. He was "on the ground" as they say in prison.

I have been talking since the oil embargo in the '70s.

"full grown bear working the middle of XX between Y and Z... Hide yer lunch money boiz"

My radio etiquette soapbox item is these A-holes that start talking before they're keyed up, say three words, and unkey before their done talking.

Good job ol' buddy, we heard we part of one word.

Hardly an effective communication.

I always think of that as not so much comedic timing, but as comedic silence . . as I know I’m not the only one waiting to see if anyone takes the 10-9 bait.

This was/is where The Radio with Sound Effects was fun. Dial in something weird and reply, “odger, ga-nap zzz-tird”

.
