• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a great story concerning Red Sovine and his song "Giddyupandgo"; My dad used to listen to his Dwight D. base station all the time in his bedroom and many times we used our CB's on our trips South to see the family.
My dad was looking for a good handle (CB name) and he was listening to the "Teddy Bear" record when he heard that song "Giddyupandgo", and that is how he got his handle.
I have had that Red Sovine CD for awhile now and burned copies of it for my brothers and sisters in memory of our father when he passed in 1998.
CB's were a great thing back in the day and it looks like they might just make a comeback-Would be nice!!!
Thanks for sparking a priceless memory.

And what about the classic, "Hey, Shirley [This Is Squirrelly]?"

And Car7858, it would be nice to see a resurgence in CB use, at least from us older folk and perhaps get some younger ones interested as well.

Hello All: Most of these songs really bring back memories of older times. Good job you guys.

My Dad being well connected in the local communities, and in a few service clubs had a good ability to orginize and get things done for community work. He had the local VFW host out CB Breaks and worked out a deal with the VFW that they would man the Bar and a few other duties for the breaks. It worked really well. After the break was over we had C&W band there for dancing, it was a great success.

The CB Breaks were advertised over the air from on top the local mountains, I did that in a 1962 Ford Comet, and got stuck a few times, but you could always did your self out. So the CB Break was basically heard all over the greater Southern California areas.

One of the band Members handle was "Getty up and Go" one of the band leaders and a C&W singer. Well as my dad explained it about ol Getty up and Go would get all Beered Up and made a even better singer. We helped him into his car and his wife drove him home to Long Beach Ca, a good ways from out CB Break in the Sunland Tujunga area over looking the San Fernando Valley.

When Getty up and Go got home he fired up his Johnson Valiant Transmitter into his Johnson Linear Amplifier feeding two Moonraker 4 Element Beam Antennas. He had a pretty strong signal from Long Beach! He had a music type microphone that he could sing into and His Electric Guitar was also plugged in the mic circuit. So we could here Getty up and Go sing some ol Hank Williams song, right over CB Channel 15, and not bad I thought! He only did one song as his wife allowed hin to do so.

After the Getty up and Go performed his song you could hear clapping signals coming in.

Some of those old songs I sure wish I had a recording of them..... Thought I would share this one with you all.
