Is there any CB radio traffic in the city of Buffalo?

I've never owned a CB radio but thought about getting one just for fun. I live the city. If I had one in my house, would I pick up anything? What about driving around the city?

If you don't have any luck with responses in this forum, go the the main forum page and scroll down.

There's a forum for CB Radio and right underneath that, a forum for GMRS (GMRS/FRS/MURS). Give
posting your question a shot in those forums.

If you have a scanner that receives down to 27MHz, search between 26.965MHz and 27.405MHz and monitor for activity. Keep in mind, however, that CB signals only travel a few miles so you'd need a good outside antenna to maximize your search. Even then, most scanner antennas would have difficulty at those frequencies.

I have one in my vehicle and have it on whenever I am travelling on the local highways. There are few people talking, however. I monitor ch 19 for traffic incidents. It seems there are still many truckers who have thier CB on and they usually announce any traffic issues, which has saved me countless times from being stuck.

I've driven around with a cheapie for awhile (the bottom-line price one you get at Wal-Mart along with the same for the antenna), though I just packed it up because I didn't like the shoddy cabling I am only capable of. But, while I had it, I can say there is a very small but active community of CBers near the downtown area. It's not vigorous and I never nailed town the timing, but they are there and are very familiar with each other's handles ("Skywalker" seems to be a big one). They like 23. When not poking around for them, I too kept the dial on 19 and would hear the occasional trucker drop in as I approached the highways. All in all, worthwhile, I would just recommend a professional installation if you can afford it - or at least I say that to myself.

I have a handheld Pro-135 and have it paused on 27.185. I got nothing with the stock antenna and switched to a mobile Tram bnc antenna I got from Amazon and got a few hits. I'm about 3-5 miles from the interstate and I plan to mount the antenna on my SUV and take the radio with me when I drive the interstate to work. I think a magnet mount cb antenna adapted to bnc would probably work best.
