• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all I was just curious about something. I noticed that when I monitor a digital TRS that if I go manual to the CC, the CC comes in perfectly clear. But if I'm scanning that system the voice transmissions break up pretty bad. I've tried using the att but it just makes it worse. Any ideas?

I have the Pro-96 and the RS 800mhz rubber ant.

Thanks All

Att is not what you want in this case.

I don't know if you are aware of what attenuation is so here is the quick low down. It weakens the frequencies power. This is essential if you plan on connecting an antenna to this hand held or you are near the tower. This is because it would over load the front end mixer and cause damage to your radio.
Ok now that is out of the way.

I have to say that I have seen this same thing happen with mt bc296d. The control channel will be at 5 bars and when a talk group comes up it's at two or three bars. My guess is that each frequency operates differently. Whether it's the control channel or system frequencies.

I have also noticed that when the control channel is at 2 or 3 bars the talk groups come in at 5 bars. So I position my antenna to receive the control channel at 2-3 bars and it never fails.

The solution might be an amp. although some would say it's an external interference problem. But use the att. to not damage the scanner at areas of high signal strength when using the amp or just disconnect it. Are the frequencies in question 800 MHz? I see that Ohio is 800 MHz, if they are this is always a problem I think. Mine are at 800 MHz for a particular site I listen to sometimes.

The Stark Co SO and OSP (which are both 800&digital) come in great through the rest of the county except that particular area. And I did notice that even when I take my antenna off I can still get a little bit of the cc. The only thing I can think of that may be the problem is that I have a sub-station about 250 ft from where I work. The area is kinda low where I work but it is out in the open.

Thanks for the response by the way, if anybody else has any ideas or suggestions on a new rubber antenna that would do better than Radio Shacks please feel free to let me know.

Does anybody have any suggestions or remedies for this problem that I have? For some reason I can barely pick up the cc for my county, but yet I can pick up a cc two counties away. I tried an amp and didn't work, and I tried a different antenna with no luck. This only happens in this area where I work.

The only band I'm having this trouble with is 800MHz, everything else seems to come in fine. I want to stick with a good portable/rubber antenna if anybody has any input on that.

Thanks again

Btw, the frequencies I'm questioning about are as follows:
Stark SO cc:868.4000MHz
MARCS Canton:867.8MHz
MARCS Massillon:867.8375MHz
MARCS Nimisila:868.8000MHz
