• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So we have some CCR (Cheap Chinese Radios) handhelds with some cool receiver features these days. (Quansheng UVK5R or TK-11 for example) reality broad receiver ranges, multiple modes etc…
Are there or will there possibly be any mobiles that have similar features? I would love a cheap mobile that would scan things like 225 to 400 mhz AM military aircraft band.

Anything like that out there or possibly on the horizon?

There was a post a few days ago in the CB forum about a new, small, all-mode CB with a full HF receiver, so I'd expect to see more activity in this area in the future.

They're kinda getting there in frequency coverage, not so much in modulation. My Radioddity DB-50 will automatically switch to AM in the Civil Airband (on the left deck) but is FM only above 136 on both sides.

The only thing holding the manufacturers back is possible demand. They know people are going to buy the HTs, even non-radio folks, just in case. if there's something specific you're looking for, talk it up here and other places. I've been talking about using the Xiegu G90 for CB and SWL around the net for about a year, and gotten similar responses from many folks. A sweet Kenwood or Yaesu HF mobile isn't in the budget for everyone, and even the G90 is more expensive than any average CB/export rig, so the HamGeek 6699's price of ~160USD is a bargain in this admittedly narrow segment of radios.

I'd love to see a multi-mode 6m-70cm mobile with a general coverage receiver. Since we're dreaming and these radios are built on SDRs, i don't see why they couldn't have a separate internal receiver for broadcast TV audio as well. Give it a detachable face, too. I'll take two to go with my G90s.
