To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings Radio Gurus,

I currently have a CDM1250 connected to a Bogen GS35 PA system, and I would like to adjust the speaker setup, and add additional speakers, in our station. I have searched the other threads, and have not come across any discussions that mirror my set up.

We do not have any “alert” features setup. No loud siren or horn, does not activate doors or lights. Just straight up radio to PA. Ideally, we would like speakers to be zoned with independent volume control. Here are my questions:

1. Can the GS35 handle this? If not, what should I be looking at? Will a home theater amplifier work?

2. What speakers should I be looking at if regular home theater speakers won’t work?

3. Is this possible?

Apologies for my “noobness,” and thank you for the assistance!

How many zones are you hoping to have different volume settings in? And how many speakers in each zone?

That Bogen amp doesn’t appear to offer discrete zone volumes - it’s a multi input, single zone amp. You could utilize the 70v output to wire a bunch of 70v speakers in parallel but you’d need to add volume control knobs between the amp and speakers to adjust zone volumes. Also it appears to only offer 35 watts so if you wire too many speakers you may have an issue with low volume or clipping. Also just a consideration…not sure if you’re worried about someone accidentally turning those knobs down and missing calls…

If you are just looking for some zones to be louder than others (but never change) many 70v speakers have different transformer taps so you can wire them all together but have some be louder than others. That way you don’t run the risk of them being turned down all the way and forgotten about.

For that amplifier you would probably run the CDM1259 filtered rx audio from the accessory connector to the mic 6/aux 1 input on the Bogen then run a number of ceiling speakers with 70 volt line transformers and volume controls on each speaker. You should be able to run several speakers in parallel from the 70 volt line output on the Bogen. You would have to shop for appropriate speakers with built in transformers and level controls.

You only have 35 watts to play with so you would need to match the speaker/transformer models and number of speakers to not exceed 35 watts of power and I would downsize that a little to maybe 25 watts. So as an example, with speaker/transformer models rated for 5w you could run five speakers, etc. If your not familiar with 25v/70v line systems I would recommend hiring someone to choose the speakers and install/wire up everything.
