They try to make them look like palm trees here in the Phoenix area.

I saw them on display at an electronics trade show more than 15 years ago, they came then in two types, one to emulate a Pine tree and the alternate to emulate a Palm. They were designed to blend-in at a glance and would not actually Fool anyone upon a closer look. The idea was to make it easier to get planning permission where there were objections from the "public." in my town we have neither of these but we do have a couple of the ones that try to be Flag Poles and have an actual garrison sized USA flag flying. There is one on the property of my local Roman Catholic church (allegedly all the Church got was free cellular service for the permission).

We have them here in MA also. It's funny because they are suppose to look like pine trees but they are the only trees that are about 20 feet taller than all the surrounding trees. They look like a giant fake Christmas trees.

The land of broken calculators.
I can see one from my back yard and take it from me.....
A plain jane monopole is a whole lot nicer looking.
The fake trees look ridiculous.

Some of them are quite good reproductions but the one I can see is a 150' douglas fir lookalike and douglas firs don't grow here. It sticks out like a sore thumb. To make matters worse it used to have a flashing beacon on the top of it. I think it burned out.

If you can't find enough pictures of them online, I can post a pic of "mine"

North Augusta, S.C. has one too. It stands out from the surrounding trees, is almost isolated from the rest of the natural trees, and it's very obvious what it is even at a distance.

Some of the ones I've seen here in So. Cal. are about as obvious as the cell tower it is trying to disguise!
