I had the details backwards... one Spartan/Smeal 105' and two Pierce trucks, one 75' one 105'. But you are right about the shop number.. it will be E5208 (E is for Engine now, R will be for Rescue).

Love to see a link to that pic ... I've been scouring Facebook all afternoon without success.

The christmas CFD toy give away was today... lots of great people there. I could be wrong, but I believe it was something like the 38th year they've been doing it. Held in the Corral at the stampede grounds. Looked like a great turnout...

I don't remember the last time I've seen 4 district chiefs vans in the same place at the same time....LOL

So the new trucks are already at their new halls?

I know an acting captain very well and he was at 11 last week - I may have to give him a call and stop by for a peek.

Yet another emergency landing call at YYC, I think it was a 757 or something like that had mechanical problems....... total of 11 fire vehicles called.

and on a side note: is #22 rescue still in service?

The name switchover is going to be a fun time.

A call went out for 23 Pump just now and in the life of the call the Pump and the Dispatcher went from "23 Engine" to "23 Pump" to "Engine 23" to "23 Pump" and back to "Engine 23" - just a funny exchange to hear. I would think once the "official" switch takes place, it'll be a lot better as I'm sure all the CAD systems still have the old names but some Captains are jumping the gun on the new names.

On another note - I swung past 11 station yesterday and they still have their old yellow pump. So the new quint in a photo mentioned earlier must have been there for a photo-op only.

The CFD apparatus are supposed to be using their normal callsigns until the 12th (next Monday). The people who are using them now are only serving to confuse everyone.

There are six deputy chiefs and two assistant deputy chiefs now in CFD. I don't know which order they go in or which portfolio deputy X handles. They are to book on and off the air when they are mobile starting in mid-December.

Do those deputy chiefs replace the district chiefs?

I also hear Chief Burrell booking on and off the air now, is that part of the same protocol?

Welcome to the first morning of Engines - although it still sounds like there is a struggle with the apparatus type before the station number, (on both sides of the radio ;)), but I'm sure that'll get worked out with time.

Question for you Jay, are you just going to keep referring to 23 Air Light as that? Or is there another name within the new system?

Everything will get <name> <station> treatment, so it will be Air-Light 23. And if you meant is there another name for the Air-Light in the Incident Command System (ICS), no, there isn't, or Calgary isn't using it. (Calgary isn't using the ICS terminology to its true 100%; strictly speaking, Calgary's tankers and bush buggies should be Engines as well, just different types/classes compared to the pumper trucks. Google something like CalFire (California Department of Forestry fire service, not Calgary Fire) apparatus terms to see what the real, true ICS definitions are.)

You guys are going to need a spreadsheet to follow the changes when the quints actually do come on line. A whole metric buttload of trucks besides the quints will be moving to make room and make a more efficient deployment of CFD apparatus. Tenders, engines, aerials, boat teams, rescues, and other stuff will be moving all over the place. When it gets closer to the time it's going to happen (and no, I DON'T know when that'll be right now), and things get confirmed, I'll tell more.

Did 72 get a second Engine Jay?

I heard 72 make a call from Engine 72 but didn't catch the whole conversation.

They did mention something about their new truck. They have been using Irricana's new pumper ever since 72 opened, as the one for Balzac was not ready yet.

Aerial 2 - I heard something last week about a new truck being there instead of the Bronto. Is this a permanent move? Any other details?

Thanks

Are the Quints in service now? It sounds like Rescue 17 moved from 17 to 21 and I would then guess Aerial 21 went somewhere else.
