Hello all,

I'm new to the hobby and am a bit confused - ok, alot confused. First of all my scanner is a Uniden BC246T. Secondly I enjoy listening to the fire/police/ems here in Champaign County. Before I came across this site I paid for the "Mr. Scanner" CD-rom for codes and that is where my confusion starts.

There are a couple of police frequencies listed on the CD-rom that aren't on the data base here. Does anyone know anything about these?

155.4600 - IL Dept Of Criminal Investigation
155.6100 - Champaign Police Dept

Also, Mr Scanner has the three trunked frequencies listed as "Champaign Police" and here they are listed as "Public Works" - anyone know which is accurate?

Hopefully these questions aren't too mundane, and any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Great scanner, that is what I use in Champaign County as well.

155.460 is the Illinois State Police HF4. In our area it is mainly used for car-car ISP conversation, such as during the Final Four basketball crowd monitoring on Green St. Might be used during the football season for ISP units at Memorial Stadium, I don't know.

155.610 used to be the Champaign PD repeater frequency a long time ago I'm told. It is now licensed as a mobile only frequency and I've yet to hear it used.

If you are talking about this system...

I've never heard PD on this system. I do listen to it to try to find new talkgroups but all I ever hear is Public Works, Park Dist, etc.

Great, thanks!!

And yes, that is the trunked system I was referring to - although I still haven't been able to figure out how to program the trunked frequencies in my BC246T - I use ScanCat Lite for programming.

If you're looking for just day-to-day ISP traffic for this area (Champaign), you want to listen to HF-2. HF-4 is used more for special events and activities (its also the main VHF freq for district 6 in the Bloomington area).

ISP operates both on HF-2, and then on their low band freq.
