Awesome. One setup I have used, is very similar to that, but each city's PD goes into its own bank, and then the FD's I can usually consolidate to one bank(more often I am interested in hearing police traffic), and then public works into another bank. You might want to set one of your banks to "open" that way you can scan for new talkgroups.

.

After actually figuring out that the scanners are using the decimals to determine the freqencies used, I now understand how this all works in trunked world (sortof) at least for the EDAC systems and it seems to be working perfectly on my receive end. I don't seem to be missing anything during conversations. It's no wonder many agencies are going to digital systems that can't be scanned.

Good to see you have it figured out, and that win software (to me) seems intuitive for how my brain organizes a trunked system.

As for digital, it only takes a digital scanner to scan digital systems (it only things like EDACS ProVoice with ESK- a proprietary technology) that can prevent you from listening to agencies like San Antonio or Corpus Christi (they have PV right guys?- w/o having to go confirm myself here, on RR). The other type of technology preventing us from listening would be encryption, which is like "scrambled" speech.

Check here to see which scanners are digital. Texas DPS happens to use a digital, conventional (non- trunking) system, whereas places like Austin use a digital trunked system (a Motorola TRS). So it's not that they can't be listened to, just not with your scanner.

Like david said, that 95 is an awesome scanner and will do plenty, until you catch the "-itis" and then the scanbug will drain your wallet. Have fun learning and do feel free to start your own thread with questions in the future.

Oh I see. I figured once a city paid for a digital system, they would also use encryption. Seems kinda lame to do one and not the other since it's the point IMO. A digital system is not superior to an analog radio system as has been proven, when it comes down to simple range and reliability issues.

Theres been chatter in industry about the digital systems not picking up transmissions such as a firefighter in a noisy building. The radio wont pick up his voice, but will pick up the loud noise in the background. A digital radio system converts the audio signal at least once during the transmission. This is not acceptable when the only transmission that gives a position or vital information wont be repeated.

I do appreciate the information and help with the Pro95. It's working great now that I have a better understanding of how the radio is programmed.

Yes, Corpus has mixed analog and ProVoice, but unlike San Antonio, they don't use ESK that I'm aware of.

Austin uses a P25 Standard trunking system, which is different from Motorola trunking.

From some of the discussion elsewhere in the forum, it seems that at times, both P25 and ProVoice have been marketed as being unscanable as a feature to potential clients, particularly public safety. This really isn't the case though, as P25 scanners are readily available now, GRE figured out how to trunktrack ESK systems(my PSR-500 does it with ease), and ProVoice systems are monitorable via the Digital Voice Conversion Method found in the wiki.
