Recently updated to firmware 1.23.00 and noticed I am missing some parts of conversations with the Channel button in hold. I noticed that after the LNK light drops, the S meter is changing signal levels and would seem to indicate that the scanner is checking other sites in the system. Is that normal?

A friend of mine who also made the same firmware update immediately noticed the missed parts of conversations and so I check mine and noticed the same result.

Question is, should the scanner be holding on to the same site with only the Channel button or do I need to also do a hold on the function Site button?

It's normal. If you hold on to a talk group it will try and search for it on all sites in the system that you have enabled to be scanned. But even if you hold on to a site it will loose its control channel regulary as it does something called "house keeping" which UpMan says is neccesary to be able to check the GPS status, change of position or GPS cable being attached/detached and other things that have changed status in the scanner and need to be dealt with.

I thought that was only on the sds100. When I had my 536hp I never observed what the OP is seeing. It might have changed since I have had mine but I don't know for sure.

I loaded one of the very early firmwares that had DMR and it was doing "house keeping" even back then, and it also has a bug that the site hold dissapeared after 2-3 minutes and it began to scan systems again.
