hello all, and thanks for being here ... a couple of weeks ago i bought an icom IC-M72 marine handheld. we took a trip up to the apostle islands in lake superior last weekend, and figured it'd be good to have a back-up / second radio. it was NICE TO HAVE!

the radio came with channel names pre-written as you go through them ... trying to figure out some stuff ... here goes.
1. why does it have 03A - what happens there?
2. why is 21A labeled CCG ... shouldn't it be USCG?
3. 61A is labeled CCG as well ... not listed in the freq. guide online ???
4. what is on 81A ... its labeled CCG ... same question for 82A and 83A ...

NOTE - I have the radio in "US MODE"

Big thanks for any replies ...

Marine Channels

Lars,
I cannot guarantee this info to be 100% correct, but here's what I found:

03A- US Gov't, Coast Guard
The CCG is Canadian Coast Guard which operate on channels 20, 21A, 22A, 61A, 81A, 82A, and 83A. 21A, 61A, 81A, 82A, and 83A are also frequencies allocated to the US Government. The site doesn't specifaclly say what part of the Government. I don't know why your radio is showing the Canadian allocations for those channels...

The site I found the frequencies at was:
http://www.noftc.com/Marine Frequencies.htm

[Edit]: I just found out that 21A is the United States Coast Guard also.

Hope this helps!
Nick

That site only shows US frequencies and allocations so if you live near the border you might miss out on some information.
