I purchased a used Channelmaster's Monitenna which seems to be in good working order.

I wonder if anyone can provide any history of this antenna- how it fits into the overall product line, how it compares to the Scantenna, etc

I am not familiar with it, but suspect its a predecessor to the Scantenna

TIA

From what I have seen on line, and heard from a couple of diffrent people, it is the predecesor to the scantenna. I have heard that it is MUCH better on vhf low band and at least an equal performer on hi band and uhf (400 mhz). I had also heard that it is sturdier than the scantenna.

I still use a 5094A ( 800mz elements added version ) and has been a good performer on most common bands but have found it a bit weak in the VHF & UHF aero band. Low band and your normal UHF is very good and 800mz is fair.As for sturdy, I live on top of a hill and it takes a hard beating with losing one before from the wind. As for the history I really can not remember when Channel Master started making them or even stopped but I put this CM up in the early 90's.

You're Lucky

You lucky rascal. I've read for years about how great the Channel Master 5094A is which as the previous poster said is the predecessor to the ScanTenna. I had a chance to buy one several years ago, waited a few days while I thought about it, went back to buy it, and it was gone. Later, I learned they had stopped making it. I think you're going to like it.

I used one of those for several years. I have never seen an equal multi-band antenna. When I moved to Texas I left it behind. Big mistake.

I currently have two [2] 5094-A's up at home and one [1] up at my office 21 miles south. I use one to feed 2 scanners in my shop and the other to feed 2 scanners in my office at home. I have tested all types of antennas over the 50 years. [I'm 66]. $ for $ it is the best. During the PRO-2004/5/6 era that was the best combo going. I have two [2] locked up in my storage warehouse. One is the original white/blue box with a gold anodized antenna and the other is in the brown box with the bright alum antenna. Made in Smithfield, NC. I sold that antenna for 15 years and went back around trying to buy them back. I did get one for my son-in-law and I know where one is that a widow has on her house but want sell it to me. Sorry I cant tell you where I live. HaHa. Channel Master made the BEST TV ant's on the market. Co went into high freq/high tec stuff. I bought replacement baluns in case I get a bad storm. Sometimes it pops them. On a trip to Grundy, Va several years ago I found a house on the main hwy with two 5094-As. I stopped and knocked on the door. Thought they me a relative, but no one answered. The local wholesale co did'nt know CM quit making this antenna and I bought up all they had for $25 ea. Good Scanning to all those using CM 5094 antennas. Larry

Channel Master 5094 Monitenna

Agree. Best scanner ant. I have used . However it does heavily attenuate the VHF aero band, the Scantenna seems to excel there. Until I have a chance to perform a side by side comparison & say for sure ,I believe the CM to be better on 800. Will post the results later after doing so. If your CM does not have 800 covereage ( there was a earlier model that did not) just add it yourself . Notice the U shaped tuning elements that already exist on your Monitenna .Well trace & cut your own from sheet metal ,etc.(two are needed ).Now attach one to the top center element ( longest element) close as possible to the base of the antenna ,the other one on the bottom in the same position ,so that they are a mirror image of one another & wow you won't believe the difference on a weak signal. Like adding 30 - 40 db!
