I just got the BC125AT to replace my dying 30 year old PRO-51. In the manual it states you have to set the amount of hours that it will recharge NiMh AAs. I thought it would automatically stop charging them when they're full. How do you know how many hours to set it for?

It is like playing Russian Roulette in my opinion. Buy a few extra sets of batteries and a good external charger is the way I would go.

Buy some Panasonic eneloops and a charger, don’t take the risk of internal charging. There’s no smart charging protective circuit in the 125.

I charge externally also and use IKEA Ladda batteries.

As I stated here many times that unit is a Battery HOG. I just plug it in now if I use it in house.
I will stop charging when its full. It shows on the screen. But I still only get 4-5 hours on battery alone. Not to trilled with the scanner in the year I have had it but I am spoiled I guess with all of the Moto Hts I have to use as scanners. And my Unication G1. My HT1250-LS and the 2 HT1000s
still out perform the 125-AT but thats what one to expect from a $1,000 plus rig to a under $200.00 one. Just my opinion tons of years in radio with tons of radios

I have had two non-branded 2300mA/Hr batteries in my UBCT125AT since I bought it some two years ago - I run it until it starts to bleep than plug it into any 5volt charger that's nearest and charge it until it says "Charge complete" - it's never put a foot wrong and seems to run for 6 hours continuously.

Thoroughly recommend Nick's "Scan 125" programme.
