A new class of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Citizens Academy begins in March. This is a 10 week session, twice a week in the evenings. You will be getting a much condensed version of the actual 26-week CMPD officer academy. Go to the CMPD web site at cmpd.org for details or call 704-432-1678 for information.
I was in the class a year ago and found this free class very informative. Some of the features were a tour of 9-1-1, the driving course, and the crime lab. You will have demos by the K-9 unit, SWAT, and Air Support. You will be given the opportunity to do a ride-along in a marked unit and live shooting at the range. Some of the lectures are by Vice, Gang, DV, IA, Crime Scene, Violent Crimes Task Force, HITS, ALERT, and Criminal Intelligence units.
If you are an adult, with a clean record, and can commit to the 20 or so sessions this is a great class. Call 704-432-1678 for information.
