Charlotte SHP

OK, trying to listen to SHP in Charlotte... but on the VIPER page, I don't see a site listing in Mecklenburg county, the closest is in Cabarrus. What frequencies should I be using to listen to it? I'm still kinda new with the whole radio and scanning thing, so I'm still trying to learn.

NCSHP (Monroe H) has a couple talkgroups on the Char\Meck system.

No Charlotte area troops are using the statewide 800 yet.

In a few months, more sites should be activiated in addition to the Concord VIPER site.

Don't believe there are many 800 radios in the hands of area troopers at present.

You will be able to hear SHP on two talkgroups on the Char-Meck trunked system. 2352 is for H5 cars (Mecklenburg). 2384 is for Gaston and maybe Cleveland cars.

You will only hear the dispatch side unless the troopers answer on 800 handhelds. The Mecklenburg troopers should all have 800 handhelds to use when they are out of their cars.

Keep in mind the VHF Low band frequencies are still in use across the state until VIPER goes full time. You will also hear SHP on the appropriate ones for Mecklenburg County. 42.3800 is the one listed in the RRDB.

Thanks guys, that helps out a lot. That definitely explains why I couldn't find SHP for Meck in the VIPER database... they aren't there yet.... good reason.

42.380 MHz for Monroe dispatch, and 42.580 for the H-5 (and H-3) cars.

Keep in mind that Viper sites are licensed throughout Troop H ... just no activity yet.

Check out the specific callsign, depending on where you live in Mecklenberg County, for the trunked frequencies associated with that site:

WPMU554 (University area - near district office)
WPMU587 (Gaston County / Bessemer City
WQCS908 (Union County / Monroe - NCHP Troop Hdqtrs)
WQCS911 (Cleveland County / Shelby)
WQCT914 (Huntersville)
WQCX285 (Cleveland County / Kings Mountain)
WQCZ390 (Cleveland County / Shelby - second location)

There will also be sites in Mooresville and Barium Springs, and it's possible NCHP units in the north end of Mecklenberg Co, particularly when working the interstate, might affiliate with one of those sites more-easily than the Huntersville - Babe Stillwell Farm Road NCHP site.
