JEFFERSON COUNTY – Dive teams searching the Chatfield Reservoir for a missing man say they will continue their search until dark.

The search was suspended for a brief time Saturday afternoon because of lightning.

Jefferson County dispatch says a call came in at about 10 a.m. Saturday that a man had gone missing and had possibly drowned.

Investigators say the man, described as being in his 20s, and his friend, were out boating when they both jumped in the water.

Investigators say the friend left to use the bathroom and when he came back, the man was gone.

Teams used a bloodhound dog but could not find the man.

At around 12:30 p.m., authorities say the search was transitioned into a recovery effort.

Investigators say it is unlikely the man was able to survive because of the jagged rocks.

"The area where he is located off the shore has a lot of riffraff as you can see around, (it's) very difficult to walk here and his shoes (and) cell phone were still in the boat. It would be very difficult to walk out of the area. The rangers did a good job of locating the car that he was associated with and are continuing to monitor that to make sure he didn't show up," said Wayne Zygowicz with Littleton Fire and Rescue.

CHATFIELD RESERVOIR -- Rescue and dive teams resumed a search Sunday for a man who was last seen swimming near the dam at Chatfield Reservoir.

A weather system moving through the area made it unsafe to continue the search Saturday evening, but divers resumed the search at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. About 11 divers are combing through the reservoir using sonar equipment to find the man.

Before the search was suspended Saturday, crews working with sonar found something in the water they said they wanted to investigate further.

Officials said two men were boating near the dam Saturday morning when they jumped out to swim. One got out of the water and when he returned, his friend could not be found, but his personal belongings remained in the boat.

Following more than two hours of searching, officials moved from rescue to recovery operations just after noon Saturday. The visibility and conditions in the water made it very difficult to see anything in the water. Littleton fire officials said visibility in the water Sunday was only about two to three feet ahead of them.

Rescue teams were also using a submersive craft to try to locate the man's body.

The missing man is described as a 20-year-old Hispanic male. His name has not been released.

Officials from multiple agencies, including Littleton Fire, Jefferson County Sheriff, Colorado State Patrol, and the State Park Rangers are helping with the search.

The body of a young swimmer who drowned at Chatfield Reservoir over the weekend was found Tuesday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

The teen's body was recovered at about 9 a.m. on the north end of Chatfield Reservoir, near the dam where he was last seen swimming.

The teen will not be identified until his next of kin can be notified.

Authorities said the incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning. The actual cause of death will be determined by the Douglas County Coroner's Office.

Crews from several different agencies had been conducting a very extensive search since Saturday morning, when the 911 call was placed.

The victim was with a friend, fishing on the water, when they decided to take a swim. Later, one teen jumped back into the boat but the other teen never surfaced.

Because the water was so murky dive teams had to use sonar equipment to locate him.

Crews that were called to respond to the missing swimmer at Chatfield State Park included officers with Colorado State Parks, Littleton Fire Department, Metro Dive Team, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
