CHATFIELD RESERVOIR -- Rescue and dive teams resumed a search Sunday for a man who was last seen swimming near the dam at Chatfield Reservoir.
A weather system moving through the area made it unsafe to continue the search Saturday evening, but divers resumed the search at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. About 11 divers are combing through the reservoir using sonar equipment to find the man.
Before the search was suspended Saturday, crews working with sonar found something in the water they said they wanted to investigate further.
Officials said two men were boating near the dam Saturday morning when they jumped out to swim. One got out of the water and when he returned, his friend could not be found, but his personal belongings remained in the boat.
Following more than two hours of searching, officials moved from rescue to recovery operations just after noon Saturday. The visibility and conditions in the water made it very difficult to see anything in the water. Littleton fire officials said visibility in the water Sunday was only about two to three feet ahead of them.
Rescue teams were also using a submersive craft to try to locate the man's body.
The missing man is described as a 20-year-old Hispanic male. His name has not been released.
Officials from multiple agencies, including Littleton Fire, Jefferson County Sheriff, Colorado State Patrol, and the State Park Rangers are helping with the search.
