Chatt-Comm is currently using a unique method of dispatching that I've not heard any other agency use. Let me say up front I am not one who posts editorial comments on how public safety agencies do their job. THEY are the professionals - not me. What Chatt-Comm is doing is just interesting to me.

When an EMS-type call comes in, they are initially dispatching only the Rural Metro unit (transport) as a "PRE ALERT" in which they give them the address and send them on their way. A few seconds later, they dispatch appropriate SSFD or JCFD equipment to the same address, providing full information, including Medical Priority Codes, to all units enroute.

Anyone have any insight into this process?

I can't remember, is Rural Metro stationed at the fire stations or do they roam about like Metro does in Cobb? I could see them giving them the address real quick just to get them pointed in the right direction if they are already on the road.

Not too different from what CEMSA does in Cobb. Often times EMS calls go out on CEMSA dispatch first, then CCFD sends the appropriate FD unit in tandem. Some of the times, the responding private EMS (Metro, Puckett, Georgia EMS...whoever is primary EMS for that zone) will key up on CCFD dispatch (not CEMSA) and advise they are on scene and to cancel whatever FD unit is en route if they haven't arrived if they can handle the call.

Grady EMS uses the "pre-alert" system as well.

You know Georgia EMS is a little different as they get the call from Kennesaw/Acworth before Kennesaw/Acworth sends the call to Cobb FD.

I like the fact that on the EMS units in Cobb, they all have one radio on their dispatch, another on Cobb Fire dispatch. I believe that is what they do with R/M in N. Fulton as well.

Check your e-mail, horsethief!
