I am visiting Chicago from DC. I hear lots of “in route” traffic on fire frequencies 154.130 but I do not hear any unit dispatch. Does the department use some type of CAD dispatching systems or am I missing a frequency?

By the way, you have a very nice and friendly city.

Really! Not like being in South Carolina or other southern states.

CFD Dispatch is not normally done on tha air unless the rig is already on the road. Phone lines and microwave links are used to connect the stations with the OEMC (Office of Emergency Communicaions).

A CAD system is used and rigs are equipped with computers. As with any CAD system a lot of the radio traffic concerns malfunctions...
