Noticed that a new office "East Sacramento" has popped up on cad.chp.ca.gov - anybody know how recent this is? Are they on the Black, Gold, or somewhere else?

Probably whoever is working out of the Sheriff's Rockingham Station. Just a guess, though. Don't know when it started being displayed that way.

Still only Black and Gold in Sac, and that area will be on the Black.

As far as I know this just started showing up on CAD.

I made an inquiry with dispatch, they are out of the Rockingham Station and are on the black.

I have a call into the Valley Division PIO's (who I am friends with) voice mail to get more info but don't expect a call back until Monday or Tuesday.

every thing is the same nothing new. they are on the black. Nothing will change until CHP goes to 800 Trunked who knows when. CALTRANS is having trouble now in northern CAL. The plows in the last storm proved that the 800 wont work. Lucky they had the low band still in.

There is still a lot of Cal-Trans activity on the 47 mhz channels as well as walkie-talkie freqs like 156.135, .165, and 195 mhz. I only hear scattered traffic on a couple of their conventional 800 mhz repeaters.

Most of the sheriffs offices patrol large unincorporated areas using conventional VHF repeaters. The Highway Patrol provides traffic enforcement on those same beats. They should have graduated to the high band; when city police departments started migrating to the UHF band and 800 mhz. Even now, some of them still can't use the CLEMARS mutual aid tac frequency on 154.920 mhz...

All the CHP hand helds have Clemars in them plus the local Sheriff, some local PD. We have several of the CHP vehicles have VHF radios in them. Most are Midlands. I have bought several for CHP officers and programed them for them, the use there own. Same with the hand helds, some have there own for home use. I have programed several CHF with the CDF and Local fire dept. freqs. Most of the Officers are real decent.Known most of them for several years, the new ones are schooled by the others. Good men and women. Cal trans is quite active in the north valley on 800. As long it " aint a snowin their a talkin" is their local joke. What a mess it will be up here. Should of taped the CHP radio testing they did. Out of 100 tests, They were only able to confirm 17 sites/ conditions.

I've known a few of them too. Unfortunately they're SOL around here as far as direct car to car traffic with other agencies is concerned unless they know each others' cell phone numbers. CHP high band VHF and UHF activity is rare around here.

Cal-Trans continues to operated on a couple of the 47 mhz frequencies here too. They also have two conventional 800 mhz repeaters...

Rancho Cordova Area Office

That "East Sacramento" on the CAD is reflecting the recent decision to upgrade the CHP E. Sac. "substation" on Rockinham (originally co-located in an allied agency facility barely a year ago) to a full-fledged CHP Area Office, effective 1/30/09. Its Area name is "Rancho Cordova Area Office," and has been assigned location code 260.

Radio propogation studies - and other considerations - have been underway to determine if there will be (notice the distinction between "will be" and "needs to be") a radio split to move this or that Area Office radio traffic off the Black.

Plus, there's a four-way swap of facilities going on in Valley Division, which will result in the Rancho Cordova Area Office MOVING from Rockingham to Trade Center Drive.

District 9 switched to 800 MHz's in the early 80's and the only problems they have had is trying to find a couple of sites for dead spots, one being on the east side of Tioga Pass. The district has a couple of working sites not envisioned in the original system design. The last of the dead spots might require two additional repeaters, both of which are already licensed. Snowstorm coverage doesn't seem to be much different than non-storm conditions.

That swap sounds interesting! And pain-inducing!!!! LOL

If you are allowed to divulge details, please do...

Is Division moving to allow E Sac to move in, or are they going to share? It isn't that big a building...

The location number of 260 is not the area office number that is used as the prefix of area office unit designators, i.e., 118-581, 71-51, and 49-12. I've not found list of these area office numbers on the CHP website. When an East Sacramentor incident shows up on the CAD and a CHP unit is sent the number should be indicated in the prefix.

It should also be noted that the Valley Division Communications Center is in Rancho Cordova, separate from this apparent substation on Rockingham. This comm center handles Black, Gold, Green, and of course sometimes Blue, as well as the incoming landline calls (911 etc.).
