CHU Shutdown

CHU going off-air on June 22, 2026. Not surprising after the weather radio shutdown.

Sad to see another station disappear.

I used to catch CHU on 7335 kHz before they changed frequency in 2009.

That sucks! I do like to give CHU a listen regularly. Time for a long record.

This positively sucks. Been using CHU for propagation checks since the 70’s.

It sucks to lose the resource, but in reality there are better sources for time/frequency agility these days. For propagation, WWV/WWVH which offers more frequencies. I wonder if the current transmitters were due for an overhaul and they couldn't justify the expense.

The location where the transmitters are was "in the middle of nowhere" when it was built, but far from that now. I wouldn't be surprised if there was pressure on the NRC to sell for development in the area.
