As of Friday 3/11/22 none of the police frequencies can be heard for the City of Rocky Mount, NC police. There is no updates listed on Radio Reference or with the FCC
Does anyone know what System they switched to or what frequency they are using now?

Rocky Mount was discussing encryption not too long ago, my guess is they flipped the switch. Best way to confirm is to monitor the dispatch channel and see if radio IDs pop up without any audio/garbled audio on your scanner. If you have the ability to run control channel decoding software like Pro96Com, Unitrunker, or DSD then that will definitively tell you as well. Once it is confirmed let us know and the database can be updated for others who may have the same question.

The ID's pop up but then quickly go away. Like it wants to stop and then it starts scanning again. There is no audio or garbled talk

Encryption is going to continue with many LEO systems in NC. Some EMS systems will be looking at it for patient privacy in future. Sorry folks but safety and the need to be out of the public ear is better for those needing it. Just my penny's worth.

My Uniden SDS200 stops briefly on encrypted talk groups, and sometimes displays ENC instead of LINK or P25

Once Viper goes to Phase 2 in 2025, I suspect encryption will be the norm. It's a requirement that all radios purchased for phase 2 have encryption capability.

If your SDS is flashing Data and not stopping on that talkgroup the talkgroup is likely encrypted I have never heard garbled audio on my SDS200

Quite sure online streaming has contributed to encryption in a big way. Everyone has a smart phone. Not everyone has a properly programmed scanner, especially taking the time to program trunked systems. Installing an app is much easier.

I am really on the fence about encryption of public safety. While it is good that public safety is open to public scrutiny, most people do not understand the rigors of Police work and the inherent dangers, and do not understand the complexities involved in human contact. I am very concerned about officer safety. Law enforcement officers these days face ever increasing dangers, and a culture that hates them enough to directly target them as never before. This culture takes mistakes made by some officers, and turns them into an excuse to harm Police or eliminate them entirely. Weak spined politicians are responsible for the increasing attacks on Law Enforcement. I have listened to and spoken to many LEOs and paid much attention to the job over the years. 5 Cousins, two Uncle's, Father and Son-In-Law, plus friends.

i understand that to a point but it takes nothing to walk down the road with a bad heart and put a bullet in a cops head. it doesn't take a scanner or app to stop that and encryption wont help or stop a bad heart

Well, that's a very cold and callus response just so you can listen to police. Vilis.

I expect come2025 there will be a lot of $50 scanners on eBay, even sds200's. Sad, I've enjoyed the hobby since 1973 and was a firefighter from 1980-1999. Not sure how all this will work for say volunteer firefighters as well as the media. TAs a former member of the local news media I know we got a substantial amount of our news from scanning, you'll see a lot less news.
