Has anyone else noticed the sounds of encrypted audio on CCFD channels recently? For some reason my 536 isn't automatically silencing it and I'm hearing the garbled audio. Before anyone asks: I'm not monitoring the simulcast + its not the same sound as simulcast distortion. Is CCFD encrypting? Is it some strange method of encryption that the 536 isn't recognizing to filter out?

What talk groups are you noticing this on? If it is for the top groups for the fire investigators, it wouldn’t surprise me if they encrypted those. But to my knowledge, none of the Dispatch channels have been encrypted.

I havent noticed it. I hadnt scanned for a while and when I came back after many months it seemed like some talk group had been moved to other agencies. Do you have the most recent database loaded in?

ooh Interesting. I haven't updated in a long time. I didn't consider that! I'll update it and see what happens. Thanks!

As far as I know NLVFD hasnt gone encrypted. Could it be that the 536HP has trouble with P25 Phase 2? From what I understand there are two slots now so maybe one of them is bleeding through and the radio doesnt know when to stop the audio? Spitballing because I really dont know.

Hmm maybe that’s it. Did they recently switch over to Phase 2? It doesn’t make sense that some transmissions (on the same talkgroup) would be encrypted and some in the clear, right? I feel like all traffic on the TG would be ENC if they were going encrypted. Plus, doesn’t the 4/536 automatically detect and silence traffic that’s encrypted? Also, thanks for all the ideas and assistance. It’s appreciated!

Yea SNACC moved to Phase 2 a while ago. And I dont know if it will completely ignore encrypted stuff, occasionally my SDS200 or 536HP will land on an encrypted TG and just play the garbed stuff like this. Try googling 536HP P25 Phase 2 issues I found a few forums that indicate others may be having problems.

I listened to the clip a few times and it kind of sounds like digital audio error like when coverage falls off the cliff. Although it is possible to have some radios both in the clear and others encrypted at the same time. I have encountered that while monitoring some federal agencies in the past.

I hope that’s it. It would be a shame if fire started encrypting! I’m assuming you haven’t experienced that sound on your devices lately?

I am up north so there is not much P25 traffic here but there was a lot of it back on the east coast.

So I listened to the Angel Peak site on both my SDS200 and 536HP for a couple hours the other day, both are on the same antenna and could not replicate the issue. What is your antenna setup?
