OK, I found the Clear Talk frequencies in the Data Base. I am going to try to program trunk frequencies into my scanner for the first time.

Here is my question, (probably the first of many :? )

The closest location I could find to my house is listed under the Utica (deerpark twp) listing. It says the location is Lasalle Co, so I assume I should go off of them.

It is listed as an analog Motorola Type II SmartZone. Since all the freqs. listed are in the 800MHz range, I assume it is an E2-800 system as listed in my BCT8 manual.

Do I have to enter every freq. that is listed under Utica? including the red primary, and blue alternate control channels?

Then, for progrming talk groups, what number is the talk group number? Is it the "DEC" listing?
What are the "HEX" listings? Is that part of the talk group number?

I'm totaly confused here, hoping you all can help me though it?

If the scanner will trunk CC only then program the Red and Blue, one should give you the noise of a CC. If it doesn't then you may be out of range :( . If the scanner does not use CC only then program all colors listed.

Use the numbers under DEC for talkgroup.

I did the control channel thing, and I am getting activity on it now.
Thank you for the tip!!

Will it only pick up the talk groups that I have entered into it?

And also, can I put other frequencies in it for other areas of the state, as long as they are listed under the same page from Clear Talk?

For instance... I entered Utica IL's control channel freqs., Can I go back and enter Congerville's control channels also? Then listen in on everything between the 2 of them?

Joe,

I do not own a BCT8, so my answers are based on looking at an owners manual from the internet. The manual states your scanner will scan Motorola systems in VHF, UHF 400, 800 Type I, IIi and II. These are up to Smartnet. The Clear Talk System is Smartzone, which has several CC's throughout the coverage, and some ID's may work on more then one CC, by virtue of the radio crossing from one *Zone* to another. Some scanners will work with more then one *Zone* sets of CC's but the BCT8 will not.

Yes, in the ID SCAN Mode, only those programed and unlocked. However, in ID SEARCH Mode, it'll pick up all ID traffic on the CC.

No, only conventional frequencies may be added to the Utica CC bank.

If you can hear Congerville's CC, then you can program them into another bank and scan it also with the bank which you have setup for Utica. IOW, you can scan up to 5 trunked banks at the same time but only one set of CC's per bank.

So I can only put the CC for 1 area in a single bank, I can't put several other CC's in, even if it is all listed under a Motorola Type II SmartZone type of system. Correct????

And I assume it is the same way if I don't go the CC only route? If I just put in all the freqs. seperately it will only work for 1 area at a time?

I appreciate you taking the time to look that stuff up. I've read that book several times over. But being newby to all of this, alot of it is going over my head.

Do they make a Scanner's for Dummies book? LOL

I am definately bitten by the scanner bug, and plan on learning everything I can! :D

Aak questions, read what you can, including others experiences and smile. Most of us were right where you are at one time.

Rub a little bite ointment on it and keep on charging. 8)

If you should take the scanner to other *Zones*, you can have their CC's in the same bank, but the scanner will track the first CC it acquires until it is out of range, then it'll grab the next. But you will likely need to scan in ID SEARCH Mode.
