I’m pretty new at trunking scanners and digital scanners alike. I have had pretty good luck with some other trunking systems like VIPER, and some local stuff. However, using the RR database, I am having a hard time cracking Cleveland County’s p25 system. All I hear is a jumbled up ordeal. I’m running a whistler 1065 with my antenna on the roof of the house. Any help/advise is much appreciated. 73’s

I just took a quick look in the ULS site for Cleveland, in North Carolina. Everything listed there for the County (7 license) is conventional. Are they riding someone else's system?

The Cleveland County P25 system is simulcast. Unless you are close to one of the 4 sites (closer than any of the others) you are going to get distortion using an omni antenna. Get a directional antenna on the roof and aim it at the nearest site, Benns, Shelby, Kings Mountain or Boiling Springs. I live between Kings Mountain and Shelby and I gave up a few years ago trying to monitor them while mobile, next to impossible.

Thanks all. I appreciate it very much. I’ll start looking at directional antennas, see if that helps.

I listen to Cleveland County regularly on my Uniden 436HP with an 800mhz ducky antenna. I usually don't have any issues, unless there is a ton of traffic and the simulcast issues surface. I would say I hear 90% of the traffic without any distortion. When listening I am usually near the Shelby tower in town. I think the new SDS100 scanner is supposed to be perfect for this system to remove the simulcast issues, might check into that or try a Uniden 436HP.

I live right at the Rutherford/ Cleveland county line. I suppose Benns may be my best bet. I’m looking into some directional antennas. Wonder if the yagi style antenna would still pick up my other conventional frequencies?
