Hello,

Experiencing something odd this evening when powering up my IC-R8600 (1.38 firmware).

1. Press power button.
2. A "clicking" noise is heard that repeats at a regular interval, maybe about a second or so apart.
3. The number of clicks vary, at one point it didn't want to start at all. Could be 2 one time, 5 the next.
4. I did a partial reset. No change. Haven't tried a full one yet; maybe that's next.
5. Interestingly, when the receiver does come on, it works fine. No degradation of performance that I can see.
6. Receiver is powered via a shared Astron RS20A power supply, distributed power from one of the MFJ "banana plug" type power distribution blocks. Other devices (granted drawing less power) seem to be running fine. Nothing has been added or removed to/from this configuration, which has been in place for quite some time without issue.

Not sure what to make of it. The receiver is rack mounted, but I checked how the case felt and it's no more than somewhat warm to the touch. Has anyone experienced anything similiar with theirs? If I can solve it before shipping it to the great Northwest that would be great, but I have a sinking feeling that might have to happen. I will as mentioned try the full reset next.

Or...just leave it on all the time...

Thanks in advance.

I’ve had mine for a couple of years and I have not experienced that problem yet but I never turn it off. If you can, I would connect the radio on a dedicated power supply and see if the problem remains.

Actually, mine "self corrected"....which means it'll probably do it again at some point, but the problem has gone for now. I turned it on this morning and it came right up as normal. Had it off for a few hours, turned it on again, and no issue.

Beats me...maybe it needed a day off?

I am considering the power supply option.
