CLMRN/Uniden Tracking Issues

Hey all -

I use a 996P2 in my car with a mobile wideband antenna regularly. I change CLMRN sites based on where I am in the state, but I am mainly monitoring the Troop E or Troop F simulcasts.

I notice that the 996P2 doesn’t always grab every transmission, I.e. I’d hear a pre-announce but then no tone or dispatch. I decided to switch out radios and put my 536HP in the car instead and it seemed to do better tracking the system statewide, and I feel like I’m no longer missing transmissions.

Does anyone else have issues or success with the 996P2 on the CLMRN system? Is there a setting I could be missing that’s causing the missed transmissions or tracking issues? Any thoughts appreciated..

C'mon down, you're the next contestant on the Simulcast Distortion game show.
I suspect you search the forums for the phrase Simulcast Distortion, as that is what you're experiencing.
The 536hp is a better scanner than the 996P2 in just about every angle. However to deal with S.D., the best is the SDS series scanner.

I could not agree with you more. I switched from the P2 to the SDS200 to monitor CLMRN. Night and day difference. I loved it so much, I now run 2 SDS200s to monitor different TGs on it. I liked the P2 but you get so much reception improvement in the SDS series that its not even funny. I now enjoy no distortion of any kind on CLMRN. Pretty much turn on and listen....I also monitor different Long Island counties with P25 with no issues.

I ended up working with six 992P2 scanners.

Two older "original" 996P2 scanners worked just fine, the four new ones didn't work at all on CLMRN. I spent a considerable amount of time talking to Uniden on behalf of my Fire Company, when they told me the new ones just weren't likely to work on the CLMRN system. We ended up swapping them for SDS 200 scanners that work just fine in our stations.

How are people finding the SDS200 in a vehicle? I like a smaller footprint for the radio as it is mounted on the side of my center console and is near the passenger's leg room. I also don't love my 536HP in the car as it's so much more difficult to read. Anyone have any thoughts on the display difference between the 536HP and the SDS200?

Mine works great in my 2011 Silverado. I use it both at home, and while on emergency management deployments out of state. The SDS200 display is much easier to read on the fly.

my BCD996p2 with a RH-96 remote head and my BCD325p2 both work fine. I know that some people like to program individual sites to listen to ... i take all of the frequencies (delete the duplicates) and add them to one site and then scan the talkgroups i want. IDK havent had any distortion issues and im in the north central area of the state

at home .. my SDS100 and (3) BCD996p2's dont have any issues either.
