Hi guys just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback to give. I’ve been monitoring CLMRN for many years with numerous scanners. Uniden BCD996P2, Uniden SDS200, and a Unication G5 Pager. With the exception of the G5, I’ve tested these units out in vehicle with a PCTEL 7/800 NMO antenna on my roof. I travel mainly within eastern CT. Troop H, C, D, E, & K territory. So far the G5 has performed the best in my opinion over the 996P2 & SDS200 However I’m still missing some radio traffic here and there. The only reason I know this is because I am issued a state portable that is connected to the system and have this for comparison. I’m wondering if anyone has tried the BCD536HP for a mobile application like I have. This is the only unit I haven't owned out of all the uniden phase 2 scanners. The only other thing I suppose I could try is somehow mount the amplifier for the G5 pager in my vehicle which would allow me to plug in that PCTEL antenna to it. Are my expectations too high of these units as I am fortunate to have the state portable that doesn’t miss a beat. Let me know what you guys think.

The radio is affiliated with the system. So the if you listening to a channel that system knows and sends that info to that tower. all the others are passive devices. The smart zone follows radios

A non-affiliated radio will always have missed audio. Just the nature of it.

Scanners switch to sites that have the best dBm, and so do subscribers (programming dependent). But the one thing a scanner can’t do is affiliate and “drag” talk groups to the desired sites.

So yes, your state issued EFJohnwood will never miss audio because it has the capability to affiliate and drag talkgroups around the system.

And the state radios sit on one signal, they may roam to a different site but only listen to a single control channel at a time. A scanner scanning multiple sites and perhaps conventional will have a delay with acquiring the control channel and seeing if a TG from the list is active.

The problem with the state system is the simulcast. The G5 will be the best "new" option for RX. I went with an XG-100M which does very well and I can TX for other uses as well.

I did have an SDS200 for a little bit in the car, but due to dissimilar metals noise will be induced on the speaker output due to a bad ground.
