I have updated to the latest firmware and it appears that close call doesn't work as it used to. If I hold up my FRS radio beside my 436 and transmit it does not catch the close call transmission. Before the firmware upgrade it would always catch the tranmitting FRS radio. Is there a parameter I have to adjust?

Close call has about six band ranges that can be toggled on/off. You might check to make sure the UHF range that includes the FRS frequencies is not toggled off.

Also keep in mind that the signal has to be 20 dB (approx) stronger than any other signals in the same band. That means if you have a strong pager, you will have to be 20 dB stronger than that signal. For a FRS portable, you may not meet that level. Also note that you may have spurs which will block the hit - especially with a transmitter that close.

I have all ranges selected. As i stated before the upgrade I was able to grab the close call of a RFS radio right beside my BCD436 but now it does not pick up the close call which is physically side by side.

A new blocking TX may have come on since then. Or you may have blown the front end of the scanner.

I have no "Avoids" enabled and I cleared all avoids to make sure and Close call is still not working with a FRS radio rights beside the BCD436.

A "blocking TX" is a transmitter that has come on the air since your last test. It has nothing to do with your scanner or settings, and nothing to do with AVOIDs.

Option 2 is that you may have blown the front end in your testing.

It is working now. I am not sure what occurred. I can see the bars on close call go up in response to the signal but initially it did not lock on the channel. It now shows the spread spectrum frequency hopping values every time I press the transmit.

Can sensitivity be adjusted? I tried it with a Security infrared alarm which transmit in the 400 MHz but close call does not ever pick it up.

What did you do to fix this? My close call is not picking up anything or hardly anything after the upgrade.

FRS is NBFM conventional, doesn't have spread spectrum or FHSS. So what kind of radio is it? I doubt it is FRS as in what is defined as those 462-467 MHz 14 channel radio / service.

Actually FRS is SNFM, not NBFM.

GMRS is NBFM. Maybe you were thinking of that.

Yes, mixed up about wide and narrow. Sorry.

Still waiting for the FHSS reference from the poster. I suspect it might be eXRS, not FRS.
