I have a question about Close Call on my 396XT. I was hoping that someone could confirm my personal understanding of how Close Call works.
I understand that there are four modes in which CC can be run.
"CC DND" and "CC Priority" can be selected by hitting the Function button and then the Hold button.
"CC only" and "CC Auto Store" are only selectable from within the menu "Close Call".
Now here is where I need some confirmations.
I understand that "CC DND", "CC Priority", and "CC Only" will save their hits in a special memory location, and I can assign a QK to access this location under menu "Close Call"- "Hits With Scan"- "Set Quick Key".
On the other hand, "CC Auto Store" will log it's hits in a special system called "Close Call" and a group called "Found Channels".
I also understand that the hits stored in the special memory are only temporary, and will be lost if I turn off the scanner or the batteries die. I understand that the hits stored in the "Close Call" system are permanent.
So if I leave the scanner running for hours capturing CC hits, I don't want to take any chance losing them, so naturally I would choose the "CC Auto Store" mode to prevent data loss.
I also understand that I can only hear the communication in the three modes that use temporary data storage, and no sound is heard from the speaker in the only mode that has permanent storage (CC Auto Store).
And finally if I did choose to use the temporary memory location, and assign it QK=55 for example, I found that downloading the scanners contents into Freescan does not transfer this data. It would seem that the only way to permanently save this data into an actual system would be by using the scanner's keypad.
Have I made any wrong assumptions here?
Thanks
Rick
