• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does such a critter exist? If so, anyone know the part numbers, I can't trip up anything on Google or looking at the accessory pages for the CM.

No.

Motorola does not make nor support a remote mount kit for the CM 300.

The entry level remote mount units are CDM and XPR series.

Ok thanks , adding a VHF back to the mobile, but how I want to install it requires a remote mount.

If 160ch mobile is not enough, and you are looking for an analogue only mobile, Kenwood offers the TK-7180 than can be remote mounted in both 25w and 50w options. Offers 512ch/128zone, very flexible scan options and IMHO it is a much better option than the CDM-1250/1550 and you do not have the software hassle of dealing with Motorola.

The XPR-5550 is a great radio and offers both remote mount OR HHCH. Lots of channels. Just not sure if it has the Motorola 15+1 channel limit for scanning

I thought about a cdm, but not fond of the shape of the display.

I plan on mounting it below my smart siren controller , with a double ram ball

Analog is fine, a MCS would also work well. Since our radios aren't setup to use the system next county over, have to resort to 8 call/ 8 tac , but when we go there, we lose our county talk groups.

So there is a patch on their system from V calls and V tac's , that is why I want the VHF. Along with local muni comms.

Every radio you just mentioned is pretty long in the tooth, not to mention, the MCS-2000 is no longer supported by Motorola.

There are MANY other manufacturers out there that make a high quality product... Lots of them are still in production... And reasonably priced.

Current production / Moto support doesn't really matter.

I have a CM currently running my APRS I-gate, was going to swap that with a GM300 I have laying around. I figured since I had the radio, I would put it to better use. But not a big deal or priority.
