To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anybody know how to put the CDM1250 mobile
into bootstrap mode? Very little on the net on how to do
this and I have tried everything I was able to find with no results.
Also, is there a manual way of doing it with a combination
of buttons on the front panel?

I'd really appreciate any help on this.
Thank you

Are you talking about service mode? Press the bottom left button 5 times immediately after power up

Bootstrap mode so I can flash the codeplug. I screwed something
up and (although the radio works), I can not write to radio
nor can I read from radio.

No I uploaded the changed codeplug into the radio using
the same computer as I use for my CDM1550. The software
had been hex edited to open the 450 - 520 frequency range.
All I did was change that to 440 - 510 on the 1250 and now
cannot get back into the radio. like i said, the radio works
but now unprogrammable.

*EDIT*.. I should mention that i thought I had saved the original
codeplug in 2 different spots (as I always do). Apparently
I missed that step and now I'm paying for it.

What's the model number of your radio? I might be able to get you a codeplug force in.

You need a flash adapter to upgrade firmware and put it into bootstrap mode. You'll need a flash adapter which can be bought or built. You also need the firmware update file. It's been a while but it is R05.10.02 or something close. Here is a write up I did 11 years ago. I'm not sure if the diagram links still work but Google is your friend.

OK... To answer both, AAM25SKD9AA2AN
Radio says Tanapa # IMUE6025A
Radio reads: IMUE6025A

Here is what I've tried so far:
Flash Upgrade R05.10.04
I made a cable for front panel RJ45 jack
Using the RIB: Pin 1 RIB to Pin 5 RJ45 (GND)
Pin 15 RIB to Pin 2 RJ45 (BUS+)
Jumper between 2 and 8 on RJ45 side = no joy
Jumper between 3 and 8 on RJ45 side = no joy

When using Upgrade R05.10.04:
Radio will go into program mode but on the reboot
(according to the instructions) it just goes back to
a normal boot. Never goes into bootstrap mode

Thank you for the replies and for your input, guys.
This project has completed.

BTW.... anybody looking for a nice paper weight? It looks just
like a (coincidentally) CDM1250.

Why? Didn't you read the post? You're cable is wrong. Sorry you lost the radio.

OK... I had a friend on the phone last night getting some
help and input from him. I tried something and the radio
went totally dead. Would not power on and no display.
Being the type who does not admit defeat easily, I tried
putting 12v to Pin 10 on the accessory connector. When
I did that, the display showed EEPRM CS ERROR. I undid
last night's change, crossed my fingers and hit the write to
radio and amazingly it worked.

So, now I am back where we left off and I am now trying
to do what the post says. I will update. Thank you so much
for all of the help.

Google "HLN9742B PINOUT" That's the adapter you need to make to put the radio into boot strap mode.

Just curious....what version of firmware are you on? Is there a specific firmware update that solves an issue you are having? Not judging, just curious.

N1GTL.... Not sure what the firmware version is, BUT this issue
has been resolved and it was not firmware related.

I'll explain for future reference in the event somebody else
has the same kind of issue.

I was using (at the risk of some unfriendly remarks) CHIRP software (with the waris.py module)
to be able to go out of band with the radio. I wanted 440-510
instead of the stock 450-520. The CHIRP software has has about 8 or 10
fields labeled something like "Trunking bit 0" enable/disable then
"Trunking bit 1" etc. It also has "Conventional bit 0" and so on.
Since the radio is NOT a trunking radio I had turned off the
trunking bits. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS CAME IN

Last night I sat in deep thought for about 20 minutes and
decided to "give my brainstorm a shot"
I booted up CHIRP read the radio, went in and enabled
ALL of the "Trunking bit" fields. I prayed to the Moto Gods
and hit write to radio and it took it just fine.
Now, the real test. Would it read and write using the CPS software.
Again I prayed to the Moto Gods and hit read........ BINGO
read the radio with no errors. I hit the write to radio and
BINGO again.

Problem solved issue closed and radio is working perfect
from 440-510. Thank you everybody for your help and input

As suggested by N1GTL, I did purchase the HLN9742B module,
and all the gender changers and adapters necessary. At least I
have them now for future use. Thank you N1GTL for that suggestion

You could have just done an out of band mod for it and not risked with the CHIRP software. All it takes is a simple hex edit and that's it. But all is well and ends well. Glad you have it working again
